Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I very quickly realised that I could do a better job and took the role in house, initially teaching my own daughters before extending out to their friends.

My approach is open and relatively informal. I feel that tutoring works best when a relationship is established between myself and the student - they should feel free to ask questions, raise issues, and discuss any aspect of the work that interests them. Tuition is available in English Language and Literature for all secondary years, including GCSE resits. I can also tutor pupils preparing for the 11+, and scholarship entry in Year 7 or Year 9. Tutoring sessions are specifically geared to the student's individual needs, and may include functional literacy, close discussion of a set text, exam revision, and past papers. We can follow a specific syllabus, with the flexibility to focus on any particular aspect of the curriculum if so desired, or study more organically, choosing interesting and challenging texts that offer the opportunity to learn effectively while developing a strong set of English skills.

Hello! I'm Kallia, an experienced, qualified teacher. I mainly teach English and support students of ages 4-18, in a variety of skills such as reading, writing, comprehension and exam practice.

I am currently in training to become a dyslexia teacher and hopefully progress into becoming a dyslexia assessor.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught in inner city schools since 2016, when I qualified. Previously I used to work as a teaching assistant rural and city schools, starting in 2013.

My teaching experience comes from teaching across primary full time, working as a reading and numeracy support teacher with SEN children of ages 8-14 and teaching English GCSE, iGCSE and IELTS to students in the UK as well as across Asia and Europe.

My teaching approaches depend on the needs and goals of my students. Not one approach fits all and therefore communication is key in establishing good working patterns that will support the student in progressing and succeeding.
