About Me. I'm now taking on a small number of private students, as my university commitments have settled. I currently lecture at the University of Salford and have over 28 years of teaching experience. I'm a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a Visiting Lecturer at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge, and also teach in São Paulo, Brazil. I have been tutoring privately for over a decade. I began teaching in a professional capacity whilst working in a hospital environment where I became a Clinical Educator for undergraduate Physiotherapy students from Universities in the region. I am familiar with the syllabi for OCR, AQA, and Edexcel for GCSE, A-level, and degree courses. The first session will include an informal discussion with parents/tutee to gain an understanding of the tutee's requirements and to explain my role and how I can aid learning. The tutee largely dictates the structure of the sessions, including the subjects they wish to focus on and their preferred learning style, which can be discussed during the first session. As the student develops, the structure can be adapted accordingly.

I have tutored and homeschooled online and in person since 2012 in KS2 Literacy and Literature, 11+ & 13+ examinations, KS3 literacy, and GCSE/A Level examinations in English Language and English Literature across the full range of exam boards. Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. Personally, I believe that conversation is the key to becoming fluent in a language, but at the same time I do not neglect the importance of writing and reading comprehension. I'm a native English speaking tutor in the Westminster/Victoria area with a university degree in English Literature and Creative Writing.
I developed a love for reading at an early age, which eventually expanded to writing as well, and which led me to study English Literature and Creative Writing at university. I started off teaching English in Japan, but through a strange turn of events ended up in the Financial Industry, where I worked for over a decade. However, through the process of tutoring my own son, and then his classmates and friends, I re-discovered my passion for English, and teaching, and decided to pursue it as a career. While English can sometimes seem a dry and boring subject, I believe it shouldn't be, and that any child can learn to enjoy it given the right approach. I am a friendly and approachable teacher and examiner with over a decade of experience. I hold Masters degrees in Education and Public Health, and am working on my PhD in London. Originally from North America, I have lived and worked in London since 2010.

Teaching Experience:
I qualified as a teacher of Humanities and Social Sciences (focusing on History, Religious Studies, and Psychology) from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, before moving to the UK.

In my decade in London, I have taught Health and Social Care, Child Development, Psychology, and Religious Studies at GCSE and A-level equivalents (BTEC Levels 2 and 3 included), as well as tutored university students to support them with their writing and work on research methods.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to ask questions of the tutees to get them to think, but also to connect the work with what they may have already experienced. For example, when teaching Health and Social Care concepts, it is important to link this to the world around them, including what they may have seen recently in the news.

I would usually spend a few minutes at the beginning and end of each session just to check in with how the tutee is doing and what they would like to accomplish to make sure it is a productive session for them.

I am willing to not only support with exam subject knowledge, but to help with coursework modules as well in terms of understanding the content.

Teaching Experience:
After my Master's in History of Art and a Bachelor in Culture Heritage, I worked for a multicultural organisation that supports foreign women originally from disadvantaged backgrounds; I taught Italian to the adults and helped the children with their homework for one year.
After moving to the UK, one of my first jobs was teaching art classes to pre-schoolers and giving Italian speaking and reading lessons to two children whose parents are bilingual.
In July 2021 I completed the CELTA qualification to teach English as a foreign language and from August 2021 to March 2023 I taught art classes to disadvantaged children in a local Community Centre in South East London.
I am currently teaching English for Everyday and ESOL in an Adult College.
