I decided to start tutoring after my experience in trying to get tutors for my own children. As a professional working internationally I thought it would be easy to hand over this important element of their education to someone with both experience and patience. My notion was quickly turned on its head. The Tutors I found taught textbook style with the one shoe fits all approach. My children and others didn't fit into that mould. I very quickly realised that I could do a better job and took the role in house, initially teaching my own daughters before extending out to their friends.

I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. I have worked on multiple projects to develop the curriculum and supported in developing best practice for practicing effective assessment for learning, metacognition and implementing Bloom's Taxonomy.

1 year working with Shaw Trust and HMPPS: Teaching adults on probation with life skills, communication, literacy and numeracy, and work skills.

2 years working with City Academy Norwich: Working as a Teacher of English, as well as a Second in Department in my second year, with responsibility for Key Stage 3 curriculum and assessment design, and literacy programmes across lower Key Stage 3. In this role I also took on pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.

Teaching training placements in both a large inner-city school with high levels of SEND, EAL and socio-economic disadvantage, as well as a small, rural Ofsted Good school.

1 year as an English-specific Learning Support Assistant and Instructor within an inner-city school. This role involved supporting individual students and groups to engage with lessons and be supported with breaking down tasks, as well as stretching more-able students. Interventions were also provided as additional support for Year 11 groups in the lead up to exams.

Tutoring Approach:
My goal with tutoring to not just instruct students, but to empower them to be proactive learners. I am passionate about metacognition and aiding students in being aware of their thinking, maintaining curiosity and instilling faith in their beliefs and abilities. I am a qualified educator with over 12 years of experience in teaching, intervention support, and private tutoring. My approach is calm, structured, and fully tailored to each learner's needs, with a strong focus on building both confidence and academic progress.

I specialise in English and Mathematics for primary-aged learners, including SATs and 11+ preparation, as well as supporting students to strengthen core skills, exam technique, and independent learning.

Lessons are engaging and personalised, ensuring students feel supported while being appropriately challenged. I also draw on my experience teaching English as a Foreign Language to explain concepts clearly and adapt to different learning styles.

Teaching Experience:
I have over 12 years of experience working across different areas of education, including 3 years as a Teaching Assistant, 8 years as a Primary School Teacher, and the past three and a half years as a full-time online tutor.

During my time in schools, I taught across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with responsibility for planning and delivering lessons in English and Mathematics, as well as preparing pupils for SATs and supporting targeted intervention groups.
