I'm an enthusiastic, keen and good-humoured tutor, who teaches with commitment, dedication, passion and style!

I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students now for more than 20 years - and I achieve great results.

A native Scot, I attained my English degree (BA Honours) from Stirling University in central Scotland.

I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I am not a single-subject specialist who might find it difficult to understand why others struggle in their area of expertise.
For students who are preparing for exams, my knowledge of examination technique, and an empathy with the marker, should be invaluable. I always keep in mind the importance of the student's goals, but never take myself too seriously.

My whole career has been geared towards some form of teaching. I have trained groups of adults and children, as well as individuals, in elements of mathematics, psychology, actuarial science, pensions, and even tennis! I have tutored both of my children through IGCSEs, GCSEs, and A-levels (one was home-schooled, the other attended a local comprehensive and 6th Form College). Explaining a difficult concept to someone else can often be the best way to make yourself remember it. Throughout my career, I have held leadership positions as Head of Psychology in both UK secondary schools and a leading international school in Bangkok. These roles have given me extensive experience in curriculum development, examination preparation and supporting students of all abilities to achieve their academic potential.

I specialise in AQA A-level Psychology and also have experience teaching Cambridge International A-level Psychology (9990) and Edexcel International A-level Psychology. I am an experienced AQA examiner for Papers 1 and 3, giving me valuable insight into examination requirements, marking criteria and the skills students need to achieve the highest grades.

Alongside my classroom teaching, I have several years of experience providing one-to-one private tuition, helping students strengthen their subject knowledge, develop their essay-writing skills and improve their examination technique.
