As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives.

Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years.

I'm a qualified science teacher and Head of Science based in London, who currently teaches in a secondary school to students aged 11-18. I teach all sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) to KS3 and GCSE (Edexcel and AQA specification), and teach A-Level Biology (OCR specification). I have worked within education for the past 10 years and really love working with young people to inspire them to achieve the best they can. I am a UK qualified teacher with 20 years teaching experience. I graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 2003 and a year later completed my post graduate certificate in Education at the same university. I have taught in 3 secondary schools in Buckinghamshire and Derbyshire.

I currently teach all GCSE sciences as well as Year 12 and Year 13 A Level Chemistry at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. I am a designated Advanced Skills Teacher; recognition of my outstanding classroom practice and the excellent results that this generates for the young people I teach. I work for the Cambridge International Exam Board, being an experienced marker of A Level chemistry. In 2024 the A-level classes I taught achieved on average a whole grade higher than other students studying AQA chemistry nationally, which put my results firmly in the outstanding category as measured by ALPS.

In person I am able to offer in-person tuition in and around the Derby, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter areas. I also offer remote learning via MS Teams.

I am currently taking on students for the academic year 2025-2026. My services are usually very popular so I would suggest booking in early to secure a slot.
I charge £50 per hour, regardless of whether this is in person or online. That fee also covers my preparation for each hour long session and my time spent reviewing a students mock exams, class tests etc. The first lesson is half price :-)

Hi, my name is Maahi, and I am currently a student at St Dominic's 6th form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level. I received an outstanding set of GCSE grades and my set of results was even published in the school newspaper. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. After that I tutored the younger children in family and friends and helped them get amazing grades for SAT'S and gcse's and I want to extend this to everyone that wants to receive good grades and achieve their dreams. So now, i want to put my knowledge to some use- hence why i am here.

Teaching Experience:
I received 5 grade-8's in my Gcse's this year, including Biology, Chemistry, physics, maths, english literature, and 4 grade-7's in french, history, further maths, english language. My revision techniques are clearly effective and want to help students who want to learn and set their goals in life. I can also help with giving advice for a levels as I am currently studying biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level myself. There are multiple different ways to learn and I can help find the right way to learn for you. After having tutored many of my friends and family in the younger years, I realised that I have a passion for teaching as I can make even the most mediocre thing interesting and understandable. My name is Beth, I am currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of Nottingham. I managed to receive 8 grade 9s during my GCSEs and 1 grade 8, as well as 3 As in my A levels (Maths, Physics and Graphic Communications). In the future I'm hoping to work in robotics/prosthetics, and I have such a genuine interest in both maths and physics (especially space and quantum!). I also love cooking and playing basketball.

Teaching Experience:
In terms of teaching children, I've just returned from my second year working at a youth summer camp in Canada. Here I was required to teach the kids wilderness survival skills, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, arts and crafts, and plenty more! We were also required to teach them leadership qualities and responsibilities, as well as fun camp songs and dances, with everything being very interactive.

My personal approach to tutoring is a mixture of interactive learning and individual work, making sure to cover all of the required content and keeping a large focus on past exam papers. I believe understanding is the best approach to learning and teaching. There's no point in just memorising things if you don't understand where they came from. I explain things in such a way that it is easy to understand, and I am very patient.

However, I cannot perform miracles. Students aiming for top grades would be expected to do some homework in between sessions.

I also offer a lot of flexibility. If the student has learnt something in school they didn't quite understand, I can go over the topic again with them during our lesson. If the student understood everything in school, I can teach them new topics to prepare them for when they learn that topic in school. Lastly, near exam times, I can offer intense exam revision and exam paper practice.
