When did you start tutoring?
I have started tutoring one of my classmates while I was still in secondary school. It was a rewarding experience and it is quite interesting to go back to those times and compare how much has changed over the years in my lessons.

Why do you tutor?
I was always passionate about explaining Maths and Science to my peers back in school but I could have never imagined that it would become such a core part of my life. Tutoring is not just a source of income for me, it's something that makes me feel valuable in society, it allows helping so many amazing students around the UK to proceed in their future studies and careers. What is your biggest tutoring success story?

I have a few months of tutoring experience working with secondary school children during my A-Levels, I was selected as a physics mentor at the Liverpool Blue Coat school. I have university level teaching experience gained through tutoring my brother who is also a university physics student. I can guarantee that I will be able to deliver high quality lessons to your son/daughter if I am their tutor.

Tutoring Approach:
Often students don't understand a topic simply because the teacher hasn't put it into language the student understands. I do my best to convey ideas in clear and simple language to cut to the essence of the topic. As a current student the struggles and pitfalls of learning are very fresh so I can help someone else avoid the same issues.
I believe in STEM subjects the most important and useful way to improve is to practise a lot of questions and this will be my main method of tuition. Your child and I will discuss concepts and then apply them to concrete problems during the sessions. I will then provide some homework questions that they should attempt in their own time and will always provide complete worked solutions to all homework set by me.

Hi I'm Elise! A second year environmental science student at Lancaster University. I have a wide range of science knowledge and am excited to begin sharing and supporting GCSE aged pupils grow in their knowledge and interest of the sciences as well! Outside of tutoring, I spend lots of my time playing the flute, reading, and hiking! I'm looking forward to beginning this tutoring journey in a fun, creative and beneficial way .

I have experience tutoring one to one close friends and family but I believe I am suited to further tutoring since I already have quite a lot of experience in supporting and facilitating young people in scouting since I am an experienced scout leader in the Winchester district. I also would say I have a recent and relevant understanding of the GCSE syllabus and examinations, especially in the sciences since I am currently taking a Bsc Environmental Science degree and my passion for science has only grown since I took my GCSE's.

My approach to tutoring will be adapted specially to each student, depending on how they prefer to be taught but also recognizing weaknesses in the syllabus and working on those until overall confidence is build. I am a scientist and engineer who has always been curious about how and why things work - from small scale to astronomical - and I really enjoy being able to draw upon that experience to help students to understand maths and science concepts in ways that they can apply in their own studies and help with exam questions. I have been using maths and science throughout my career and I hope to help and inspire students by drawing upon both my academic knowledge of maths and physics and my wider work experience to help them understand the relevance of the topics they are studying by applying topics to some real-world applications.

I qualified with a bachelor's and master's degree in physics from Oxford University and an engineering doctorate (which was largely mathematics-based) from the University of Birmingham.

For most of school, university and career to date, my interest in how things work has guided my life. I have been applying maths, science, engineering and technology to real world applications, problems and challenges through conducting research and development and managing and coaching R&D teams, becoming a Chartered Physicist in the process. I also gained a Master of Business Administration from London Business School, on which I enrolled to help me understand - and now share with students - how industry operates and how science and technology are used commercially.

Teaching Experience:
I particularly enjoy finding ways to explain methods and concepts that people may be struggling with, and have experience of doing this with students and with colleagues at work. I tutored up to A level during my early years as a scientist, only stopping as the demands of family life increased. With more personal time available, I returned to tutoring to try to share some of my knowledge and experience with students and I quickly gained really positive feedback from foundation level, through GCSEs to A levels.

I have reviewed many job applications, from graduate entry to senior scientists and engineers so may be able to help with students' potential applications.

With new students, I start by identifying the goals for the sessions, focussing initially on topics of concern to students and parents, to determine whether there are any immediate challenges and to help build their confidence.
