I am an Independent Educational Consultant specialising in Dyslexic Disorders. I have been a private tutor for many years and have tutored over 200 students. I have worked with many gifted children and those also who find education a challenge. I specialise in special needs especially dyslexia and Autism. After training as a teacher and the a medical doctor I find that my interest has remained in the education field and so am now to begin training as an Educational Psychologist with the Institute of Education, University of London.

Teaching Experience:
Over 20 years teaching experience with 18 years specialising in special needs. Over 10 years an an Independent Education Consultant specialising in Dyslexia. I am able to offer tuition to students with ADHD, ADD, and Autistic spectrum disorders. Tutoring Approach:
My general approach to teaching is to enhance individual skills by providing an individual programme for the student. This allows the student to learn independently instead of the learning associated within schools of one size fits all. Unfortunately, this does not work with many children who need a structured individualised approach. I also work within the "We find this subject a challenge, not an impossibility" field; that is to say everything is positive concerning the tuition, and everyone can learn, its just they have not been taught in a way that they personally understand. This is especially apparent with the dyslexic student.

I have spent many years accumulating a wide range of academic qualifications, and my work has often primarily consisted of passing on my knowledge to others in a form they can understand. I get a lot of satisfaction from helping people to understand something they thought was beyond them. By virtue of having studied several subjects at a high level, I empathise with the feeling of finding something difficult, and have the patience and technique to get past this. I have been a teacher for many years having received my PGCE in 1992. Since that time I have worked in a variety of schools in the state and private sectors both in London and Oxfordshire. I am Ian, a friendly and enthusiastic mathematician, a former teacher of maths and physics A Levels while living on the south coast of England, now relocated to Glasgow. I believe that there is much beauty to be found in mathematics and science and try to convey this appreciation alongside the technical skills required to get you through your exams. These subjects don't have to be the impenetrable list of technicalities they are often portrayed as!

I have a first class BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics and its Applications from the University of Sussex. Maths is one of the hardest subjects to bluff your way through, and although it's possible to scrape by with a passing acquaintance of the concepts involved, you will never do particularly well without a deeper understanding of the subject. However, this shouldn't be taken as a cause for despair - far from it! With a proper understanding of the subject, a real empathy with the "why" rather than the "how", mathematics not only becomes far more interesting but also easier. Tutoring Approach:
Everyone's tutoring needs are different. To make sure that I can offer you the help that you need, I usually start by arranging a visit to you at your home. For students living with parents or carers, this is an ideal chance to meet with everyone and make sure that we are all happy with the arrangements we come to. The topics we can discuss include general points (why are you considering tutoring? What would you like to get out of the experience?) and more practical issues (are you studying Highers/Advanced Highers, A Levels or taking the IB Diploma? Which exam board are you studying? If studying Further Mathematics, which options are you taking?). There is no charge for this first meeting.

If we are all happy to proceed, we can discuss the timing and frequency of tutoring sessions.

I also tutor online using Zoom - this is easy to instal and configure, and I can help you get set up with this. There is no restriction to your location with this option.

I am an enthusiastic teacher of Physics with 17 years` experience. I enjoy hill walking and off road cycling. I am married with a son living away from home. I specialise in teaching A Level Physics and Cambridge Pre-U and have experience with all examination boards and with both A and B specifications.

Before becoming a teacher I had a wide experience of industry and also worked in two university departments: Trinity College Dublin as a Physics Lecturer and Durham University as a Computer Science lecturer.

Teaching Experience:
I have spent most of my career in industry and left to train as a teacher in 2003 years ago. I taught KS4 and KS5 Physics at Emmanuel College and was Head of Physics at Barnard Castle school. Since my partial retirement I have taught Physics at Durham High School for girls in 2019 and 2020. I have now retired from full time employment and am available throughout the working day and in the evening to provide online tuition.

Tutoring Approach:
I always aim to build a warm and friendly relationship with my students. In my online lessons I typically spend about half the time reviewing the subject material and the rest of the time in working through questions with the student. I use an online whiteboard and send a copy of the notes from the session to the student. I generally supply additional work to be completed for the next session, although this is optional and depends on individual needs.

I am a practicing UK Pharmacist with years of experience teaching all three sciences. I'm also a full time Science secondary school teacher, teaching Chemistry, Biology and Physics. I also specialise in Chemistry AS level. I enjoy teaching and helping my students and I'm able to provide tuition for all levels. I am able to help my students to maximise their potential using excellent exam techniques and targeted revision. I live with my wife in Tooting, London. We have two children, one at Manchester University, the other graduated from Leeds University. I am a keen cyclist, bass guitar player and physics enthusiast!

Teaching Experience:
I have 28 years experience in a Wandsworth secondary school teaching science at KS3 and KS4, and physics from KS3 through GCSE to A level. I have taught AQA GCSE Trilogy Science, AQA GCSE Physics, AQA and OCR A Level Physics and Edexcel BTEC Applied Science physics. As Head of Physics I am responsible for how the curriculum is delivered and also for examination results, for which I have a long track record of success. Outside of this role I have tutored students one-to-one at both GCSE and A Level.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to begin with a discussion of what areas of the curriculum to focus on, including subject areas and skills (eg rearranging equations, or long-answer questions etc) together with what learning styles work best - question-based or understanding fundamental ideas, or practicing calculations for example. I will then be able to offer a tailored program of physics tutoring, which we can modify and adapt according to need.

I also now offer group lessons where lessons are charged at £20 with a maximum of 4 students
