I qualified as a teacher fourteen years ago and have taught in Emmanuel College Gateshead and Barnard Castle School, where I was head of Physics until 2017. Independent practice is a key part of becoming stronger in a subject, and the more a student practices, the better they will get, and this is a truly rewarding feeling. I am a GTC (General Teaching Council for Scotland) registered Maths teacher with a first class hons BSc and PhD in Chemistry from Edinburgh University and a background in engineering and industry.

While I am highly academically qualified, I understand how it feels to struggle with study and the benefit of getting extra support. I have conducted my past tutor sessions based on creativity of my hobbies such as art, which always worked absolutely well. I tutored very young children outside school who lacked motivation, in Sciences and Mathematics since when I was a GCSE student. In the cases for tutoring mechanics, my tutee found it difficult to identify and link various components of the forces together and to grasp the content clearly. Thus, I investigated the source of this lack of understanding then gave a clear explanation and support. Afterwards, I managed to explain various application questions using the struggling contents and interacting with my tutee (ie. asking what the next step would be) as I went through the questions to expand his understanding. I shared my method of working out the questions logically and giving clear guidance helped him greatly, hence, I was able to see improvement in his speed of understanding and solving of the questionnaires, showing a transition in his grades in Mathematics.

My mentoring sessions are carried out in innovative ways to ensure all aspects of the content is understood (ex: embedding simple terminologies and associating everyday situations for comparison to ease the hard contents), are full of collated useful resources and present them in the most appropriate way for individual's own learning styles, are delivered with tolerance and patience at all times. My teaching methodology becomes flexible to appropriately suit the individual's learning styles to efficiently carry this tutoring session forward. However, my basic format of teaching is always going through the struggling content to make sure the understanding of it becomes clear then is based on questionnaires in-between going through the content or (application) questions to check upon the students' understanding then involves various interactive activities (ex: quiz, mix-match, ...) to engage the learning. I always work towards finding the best route for my mentees. Through my tutor sessions, my tutees always develop their confidence, self-esteem and their competencies.

Personal Description:
I am a second-year student at Imperial College London studying Physics. Tutoring has always been my calling. I am an eager and responsible individual with a passion for maths and physics. I am on a mission to be able to help other students and kindle the same excitement in them. I believe a tutor should be flexible in their teaching methods and be able to create a friendly and comfortable environment with their students where all their misconceptions can be cleared and questions answered with real progress tracking.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked at Premier Tuition in London and from there on I have been tutoring online and getting amazing feedback from my tutees. Parents trust me to be able to give their children a gentle push in the right direction. I specialize in maths and physics and I have also previously been a Science Ambassador at my Sixth form college.It has now been 3 years since I have started tutoring and I have no intentions to stop anytime soon!

Tutoring Approach:
My methods are simplistic but get the job done. I believe that explaining concepts with a clear background of where this information comes from helps students grasp information a lot quicker and I have experienced this being skipped at school myself. I am very versatile and can tutor 1:1 or in small groups. In addition, I am personally available 24/7 to all my students and give hands-on homework help throughout the week as I am fully committed to my students' progress. I am also keen on building a strong relationship with the student's parent so we can discuss progress and things your child is struggling with. For that, I usually suggest a call once a month to have a detailed discussion on your child's progress and test results.
I also have the first meeting with my student and a little assessment (verbal or written) to judge which level they're at and what I can do to help them best. That is done free of charge.
