The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I also have over a decade of experience in experimental aerospace and defence research, as part of which I conducted ground-shaking jet engine tests at military and civilian test sites in the UK and Europe, working with companies including Rolls-Royce aero engines, Qinetiq, Volvo Aeropspace, and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan.

As well as having designed numerous large-scale experiments, my practical hobbies include classic car restoration and designing and building the places where I live. Outside engineering, I enjoy freeride skiing, ice and inline hockey, and downhill mountain biking. I travel extensively with sport and have played hockey in almost every country in continental Europe and skied in virtually every country in the alps.

Engineering is one of the hardest subjects you can study, and it doesn't help when module content is disorganised, learning materials are messy and hard to follow, and when lecturers are too busy to respond to your questions. I usually start with the current topics that student is studying in the school and explain to the student that topic and related background knowledge. As I teach one to one, my pace is faster than school and we usually finish the topic in one or sometimes two classes. And then we do previous topics and I explain doubts on those topics. Hi I'm Elise! A second year environmental science student at Lancaster University. I have a wide range of science knowledge and am excited to begin sharing and supporting GCSE aged pupils grow in their knowledge and interest of the sciences as well! I followed my passion for understanding the world around me into science to become a cosmologist. Talking about scientific concepts and their connections, and passing on the torch, is just the best.

Through my master's degree at Perimeter Institute I have acquired a strong background in theoretical and mathematical physics. In my PhD at UCL I focused on statistical methods for astronomical data analysis of big cosmology surveys. I worked as a post-doctoral research assistant for 2.5 years on projects across weak gravitational lensing and supernova cosmology, with a stronger focus on machine learning methods. I also worked as a data scientist for the private sector for a few months.
