I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students now for more than 20 years - and I achieve great results.

I am very passionate about films, theatre, the media industry. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. Whilst I have no formal tutoring experience, I have a background in coaching and have also successfully aided colleagues in understanding complex theoretical concepts. I have an exemplary academic track record, ranging from where to source information to how to structure an essay to provide a successful outcome properly.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching style is adaptable to the needs of the student. However, I aim to create a constructive forum, with informal discussion, to reignite a passion for film, media or other screen studies. Lessons may involve close analysis of a particular scene to understand the basic visual styles, helping the student understand specific terminology. I have a MA in Production Design for Film and Television from Kingston University and a BA Hons in Furniture Design and Applied Arts from Edinburgh College of Art. I have worked in the film and television industry since 2004. I lead large teams of specialist designers, art directors, junior assistants, crafts people and construction teams. And I collaborate closely with other experts within the industry including cinematographers, directors and screenwriters.

A production designer designs the worlds in which the TV Drama or film is set. That includes working with location people to choose locations in which to film - and building sets in studios. It can also involve working closely with SFX teams. The role juggles creative vision with practical project management. It's a collaborative media/ industry and relies heavily on communication skills- visual and verbal.

Teaching Experience:
I've tutored students looking to win a place in art schools/universities and specialist creative high schools. Students looking to better their results at A level, and I've taught larger classes of young adults in university and workshops. I help my four year old with his art and design too : )

Tutoring Approach:

I teach face-to-face and online.
I use PowerPoint presentations, a variety of books on teaching the language to non-native speakers, and videos of dialogues in a variety of ways. Engage students in each lesson through practice, in-class exercises, and homework assignments.

Former lecturer at Central Saint Martins and Camberwell Schools of Art (UAL, 25 years) and Head of MA Screendance at London Contemporary Dance School. Recent Fellow at New York University. Selected awards and commissions include Arts Council England, BFI, British Council, Wellcome, Jerwood, Sadler's Wells, BBC and Mayor of London. Graduate of École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris (Fine Art, scholarship prize); Birkbeck, University of London (Philosophy); Middlesex University, London (Fashion & Textiles).

Over 25 years lecturing across Arts: Fine Art, Film & Moving Image, Sound, Digital Media, Illustration, Animation, Graphics, Fashion & Textiles and Dance Film at UAL (CSM & CCA) and LCDS. Experience spans Foundation through to MA & Phd, including joint honours and cross-discipline students. Founder of KAS (Kennington Kinaesthetic Arts & Science), a Mayor of London Culture Seeds award-winning community arts and education project, bringing arts education to lower-income families on a voluntary basis since 2011.

Open, relaxed and tailored to you. Sessions are built around where you are and where you want to get to - not a fixed syllabus. I'm equally at home working through a sketchbook, preparing a portfolio, discussing degree options, or walking a gallery together with a specific brief in mind. Particularly well suited to students who don't fit neatly into one box: A-level and Foundation students uncertain which direction to take or which degree to apply for; those considering cross-discipline or joint honours study; degree students thinking ahead to an MA; and adults at any stage.
