I am an Italian engineer and professional actor living in London, and teaching has been a central part of my life for many years. I currently tutor Mathematics, Italian, and Drama, working with students of different ages and abilities.

Alongside my engineering degree, I trained as an actor at the Birmingham School of Acting, where I developed advanced communication, pronunciation, and presentation skills. I am currently a grade-one "outstanding" teacher in my present school, and have been delivering KS3, GCSE and A Level English, Maths and History in the secondary and sixth-form sectors for the past 16 years, in which time my results have far surpassed national pass rates. Moreover, due to these outstanding results and innovative teaching methods, I have served as Assistant Head of Department; helping us to be awarded an internal grade 1 "outstanding" rating for the 6 years in which I held the post. Furthermore, I also have extensive experience as an "Advanced Practitioner"-tasked with turning around failing cohorts in some of the UK's toughest classrooms, as well as my time as an examiner for a variety of GCSE/A Level exam boards.

Moreover, due to this long history of being a stand-out professional in the education sector, my advice has been sought out for occasional media and radio appearances for discussions on educational policy, whilst also being head-hunted to tutor the children of prominent public figures including Premiership footballers, Olympic athletes, luminaries of the business world, and even the family of a Nobel Prize winner for a month-which was awesome!

Although semi-retired, I am still passionate about science and after gaining my PGCE teaching qualification in 2012, I am now embarking on helping GCSE and A level students with private tuition. I was offered a role at my training school, and took up a position at a local Academy as a teacher of both science and maths. During this period, I undertook extensive training regarding the change to the new (9 - 1) GCSEs and became familiar with the International Baccalaureate - both the diploma and the career-related programme.

In 2016, my husband and I returned to Bedford to start our family and I accepted a position at a local boys' school, teaching science from year 6 to A-level. Following the birth of our daughter 5 years ago, I decided to once again return to full-time tuition in order to spend more time with my growing family.

Tutoring Approach:
I tailor each lesson to suit the student's needs. The first few lessons usually focus on getting to know the student and their strengths and weaknesses. I identify areas for improvement and use subsequent lessons to work on these, as well as ensuring that the student is comfortable with the whole of the syllabus. Closer to the exam season, we will focus on improving question technique and creating links across the curriculum.

I have had a very varied career and have worked as a technical computer programmer as well as in Maths school teaching and private tuition both in this country and abroad. My approach is problem-based and diagnostic. This means that the student is actively engaged in solving problems for almost the entire lesson whilst I am responding to their answers by asking questions which reveal any underlying misconceptions.

I am currently a 3rd Yr BSc Discrete Mathematics (Maths & Computer Science) undergraduate at the University of Warwick with a predicted grade of First.
Mathematics has always been a passion of mine because I love the problem-solving aspect of it and the useful applications it has to the real world. Maths is far more significant than most people think, since most of us use it in our everyday life, yet they lack the proper understanding of certain concepts to solve various unseen problems.
As a result, I believe that Maths provides students with an effective way of building mental discipline and encourages logical reasoning and mental rigor. Also, mathematical knowledge plays a fundamental role in understanding the content of other school subjects.
My approach of gaining a full understanding of the content and completing several practice questions proved to be extremely rewarding since it allowed me to successfully attain a GCSE Excellence Award (achieved by the top 5% of the cohort) as well as obtaining over 90% in all of my Maths A-Level modules.

My approach to making learning effective is simple:
1) Presenting and delivering the content in way that is easy and enjoyable to learn, since it is proven and from my experience that this is the most beneficial and quickest way for students to learn.
2) Ensuring that my students are understanding the content comfortably instead of simply memorizing it. I will do this through constant interaction, whilst working through countless exam-style and unseen questions with them to ensure that they can apply key concepts of what they have learned.

I work mostly as a software developer and have been doing this, self employed, for over 20 years. Maths tuition makes up a significant part of my work, but it is no more than half. Previous work has included engineering, as a draughtsman and CAD operator. I retrained as a teacher in the 1990s during a period of unemployment, but apart from some part time work in further education I have not worked as a teacher until recently starting with tuition.

Teaching Experience:
I have degree in Mathematical Education with Qualified Teacher Status and this included teaching in secondary school. I have also taught a Materials Science module in further education at the same time that I was training as a teacher. This was between 1993 and 1995.
I worked for an online tuition provider from November 2021 to December 2022, teaching maths to students between years 7 and 11, including GCSE revision. I taught around 400 lessons in that time.
At the time of writing this I am still providing online tuition but have a much reduced timetable while I try to acquire some more students.

Tutoring Approach:
For online tuition I use Zoom for the connection and a virtual whiteboard that allows me to share images and documents, and write and draw on them. My approach varies depending on the age and ability of the student. For older students looking to improve their exam grades it is usually a mixture of working through past papers, looking at specific questions, or demonstrating a particular topic. At the younger end We may be going over a topic that has been done in school recently and there will be more emphasis on the student answering some questions as we work through exercises.
