Hello! I am 47 years old, originally from Denmark and moved to the UK 20 years ago for my degree. Before teaching, I worked as a monkey veterinary technician in the US, conducted my Masters research on crop-raiding macaques in Indonesia, and helped to run a volunteer expedition in the Amazon. After a couple of years of teaching in secondary school as a Science and Spanish teacher, I heard the call of the wild again and travelled for a year through Mexico and Central America. I now feel very settled here in England and am raising two beautiful daughters, as well as a menagerie of animals, including chickens, guinea pigs, and a dog.

Teaching Experience:
I completed my teaching degree in 2007 at Canterbury Christ Church University. I trained in two very different types of schools.. a private Catholic boarding school and a comprehensive high school, which gave me the experience to engage students of different abilities and backgrounds. I also received training to teach EAL and SEN students. My teaching qualification is in Science, but as a fluent Spanish speaker I also teach Spanish to both adults and children in schools and private tuition. I teach Maths, Biology, and Spanish up to GCSE level. For 8 years, I worked for a private company teaching young people in residential care, and after that at a private school for girls. I have since decided to leave mainstream, and now alongside my private tuition, I teach at a democratic learning community where yoga and meditation are taught hand-in-hand with a topic based curriculum. I am a soon to graduate S6 (Y13) student who will to study physics at university. From my own experiences, a subject is more enjoyable and easier if you know where the theory comes from. Many of my yearmates have expressed frustration over the course material bring too vague, and found that questions became much easier when we connected the dots between different equations.

Teaching Experience:
I have been a classroom assistant for Higher mathematics, where I mainly helped solve challenging problems and guided students. I have also informally supported yearmates with their higher physics assignments by proofreading and talking them through their experimental process so that they could conclude their own evaluations. Additionally I have tutored my younger brother in exam prep for his Nat 5 maths and science subjects.

Tutoring Approach:
Tutoring on areas of difficulty, consolidation or advancing further into the course if the pupil wishes so. The content will largely depend on the request and focus of the pupil, such as weekly breakdowns of questions or a more in depth explanation for learning points. Pupils often engage more when they find a topic entertaining or interesting, keeping a constant flow of conversation and discussion can help retain knowledge whilst being active.

The first class can be a free trial where we get to know each other and determine if you would like to start regular classes. I will assign optional homework with questions from online sources to help with consolidation if the pupil had not already done practice questions, otherwise the homework can be viewed as recommendations.

I recently graduated from LSE with a BSc in Financial Mathematics and Statistics, and I'm set to begin an MSc in Applied AI at Warwick.

Teaching Experience:
I have several years of tutoring and teaching experience across a range of age groups. I began by supporting younger students in Years 3-4 with Maths and English at school, and helped organise assemblies to build their confidence and communication.

In sixth form, I tutored GCSE Maths students (Years 10-11), helping them prepare for exams with structured revision and personalised support.

I also currently teach Religious Education at Sunday School, where I lead weekly sessions focused on values, reflection, and critical thinking in a faith-based context.

These experiences have helped me develop a calm, clear teaching style that's adaptable to different students' needs and learning styles.

My teaching style is calm, structured, and tailored to each student. I begin by identifying their strengths, gaps, and preferred learning style, and then adapt my sessions accordingly.

I guide students through concepts using worked examples and intuitive explanations, and encourage active problem-solving so they build confidence step by step. I never just give the answer-instead, I offer prompts and hints to help students arrive at solutions themselves.

I place a strong emphasis on exam technique and confidence-building. Once a topic is understood, I support students with targeted exam-style questions and past paper strategies.

Lessons are typically 60 minutes, but I'm flexible depending on what a student needs that day.

My goal is to make maths and chemistry feel manageable - even enjoyable - by helping students feel genuinely prepared and capable, not just memorising steps before an exam.
