Clearly each student is different, and so the way of teaching each one will be different. However I believe that if the foundation is strong nothing can go wrong. I will first try to ensure that the concept and the base of the subject is strong before we go on to a number of past paper questions and exercises. I believe that the best way to learn is to see how any problem can be tackled, go through the thought process and then apply what you know to the specific problem and solve it.

I will first see what the student finds most difficult and what their weaknesses are and then strive to overcome them. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.

From previous experiences I believe the key areas students need help in are:

- lots and lots of practice

I'm Chris, a 23 year old maths PhD student at Brunel University. I was originally granted a School Studentship to fund my studies but then soon after starting my research I was upgraded to an ESPRC grant. I am a student studying Biomedical Science in the University of Sunderland with an integrated placement at the Royal Victoria Infirmary. I have a passion for teaching Maths, Science and English as they were some of my favourite subjects in school, and since it hasn't been very long since I've left my secondary education, I am well versed in those three subjects, science to a further level due to my degree. I am 34 year old female, looking to support learners with their education. Teaching has always been my passion since I was a little girl, and this has continued to grow as I have gotten older. I was diagnosed as dyslexia went I joined university, and this has yet to stop me from being successful. I am currently employed as a maths excellence specialist, working towards my teaching qualification. I have a degree in mathematics as well as A-levels and GCSEs in the subject. I love helping others and find it extremely rewarding.

Teaching Experience:
I have been working in secondary schools since 2022. I am very passionate about maths and with my school I offer numerous tutoring sessions during the week to aid year 11s and further maths students. With my placement I offered remote tutoring where I received a very complimentary email from the head teacher after their child had joined and suggested my tutoring sessions were better than their own private tutor.

Tutoring Approach:
I start with a past paper to find any gaps in knowledge and plan accordingly to fill them gaps and correctly scaffold to achieve a strong understanding of the concepts. I will have questions pre-printed or available on my laptop depending on the topic.
