I'm Laurence. I attended the University of Oxford between 2010 and 2018, completing an undergraduate masters of mathematics (MMath) and a doctorate in mathematical biology (DPhil, PhD). I have 5+ years experience of tutoring the UK mathematics syllabus.

I've greatly enjoyed mathematics from an early age. On a personal level, I have found that studying mathematics has helped me appreciate the beauty of the universe - hence my specialism into applied mathematics. Studying quantum theory, special relativity and mathematical biology fundamentally changed the way I look at the world around me. I love bringing other elements of science into my lessons, helping to broaden my student's perspective on the world, and to also demonstrate how maths can open doors to incredible new ideas.

I'm also qualified in social work, with 4 years+ of specialist experience working with children who have experienced trauma. Due to this, I am also experienced in working with children with complex SEND needs or neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism and ADHD.

Through my time in social work, I have learnt how to support a wide range of young people, with empathy and care. I specialise in the UK mathematics syllabus, up to university level. I primarily tutor GCSE and A-Level, however I am fully capable of teaching below this level. Prior to university education, I achieved A* in every Maths and Further Maths Papers (for Further Maths: Pure Core 1, Pure Core 2, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics, and Further Additional Pure). I have a huge love for maths and what it can teach you - it's not just all numbers! It has many applications to real life and is so rewarding when you get it right. I have grown up studying the art of teaching and how students learn well. I have a broad education and can talk about ancient history, the elements of classical music, Latin texts, Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, Italian literature, and of course anything to do with maths and numbers.
