I am a graduate in Physics with Astrophysics, which was a four year degree, which included me living and learning in Italy. As a born communicator writing and teaching have always appealed, and having spent the last decade tutoring and working for the Institute of Physics, I can definitely say I enjoy it as much now as I did when I started.. Afterwards, I managed to explain various application questions using the struggling contents and interacting with my tutee (ie. asking what the next step would be) as I went through the questions to expand his understanding. I shared my method of working out the questions logically and giving clear guidance helped him greatly, hence, I was able to see improvement in his speed of understanding and solving of the questionnaires, showing a transition in his grades in Mathematics.

My mentoring sessions are carried out in innovative ways to ensure all aspects of the content is understood (ex: embedding simple terminologies and associating everyday situations for comparison to ease the hard contents), are full of collated useful resources and present them in the most appropriate way for individual's own learning styles, are delivered with tolerance and patience at all times. My teaching methodology becomes flexible to appropriately suit the individual's learning styles to efficiently carry this tutoring session forward. However, my basic format of teaching is always going through the struggling content to make sure the understanding of it becomes clear then is based on questionnaires in-between going through the content or (application) questions to check upon the students' understanding then involves various interactive activities (ex: quiz, mix-match, ...) to engage the learning. I always work towards finding the best route for my mentees. Through my tutor sessions, my tutees always develop their confidence, self-esteem and their competencies.

Personal Description:
I work mostly as a software developer and have been doing this, self employed, for over 20 years. Maths tuition makes up a significant part of my work, but it is no more than half. Previous work has included engineering, as a draughtsman and CAD operator. I retrained as a teacher in the 1990s during a period of unemployment, but apart from some part time work in further education I have not worked as a teacher until recently starting with tuition.

Teaching Experience:
I have degree in Mathematical Education with Qualified Teacher Status and this included teaching in secondary school. I have also taught a Materials Science module in further education at the same time that I was training as a teacher. This was between 1993 and 1995.
I worked for an online tuition provider from November 2021 to December 2022, teaching maths to students between years 7 and 11, including GCSE revision. I taught around 400 lessons in that time.
At the time of writing this I am still providing online tuition but have a much reduced timetable while I try to acquire some more students.

Tutoring Approach:
For online tuition I use Zoom for the connection and a virtual whiteboard that allows me to share images and documents, and write and draw on them. My approach varies depending on the age and ability of the student. For older students looking to improve their exam grades it is usually a mixture of working through past papers, looking at specific questions, or demonstrating a particular topic. At the younger end We may be going over a topic that has been done in school recently and there will be more emphasis on the student answering some questions as we work through exercises.
I do have some practical experiences of using maths throughout my employment and will try to find real examples of maths in action where this is possible.

I am currently studying A-level maths and AS-level Further maths, i have achieved an A* in my maths GCSE and an A in the Futher Maths GCSE

i am currently working with the younger years in my school year 7 mostly helping them with maths, it's going very well and myself and the children enjoy it alot
