Academic Background

My background is in Mathematics and Education. I studied BSc Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University and then graduated with BA Education with specialism in Numeracy at University of Stirling, which has led me into tutoring mathematics.

I have been tutoring mathematics for +10 years, supporting students of all ages at different levels from primary to secondary level maths, both in-person and online across many parts of Glasgow such as the East Dunbartonshire Area: Bishopbriggs, Lenzie, Kirkintilloch, Bearsden, Milngavie and the Robroyston. I adopt a direct, systematic, step-by-step teaching approach, where lessons are structured in a way that makes maths easy to understand. Lessons will firstly focus on identifying gaps in knowledge, reinforced with ample practice questions and then progressing to past-paper level questions. I believe that the more you practice, the more confident you will become. This allows pupils to go into exams with confidence.

The key is for them to understand the topic by linking to something which they previously now. This creates a connection in their brain to help them remember and understand the concept long-term. While I am highly academically qualified, I understand how it feels to struggle with study and the benefit of getting extra support. I found parts of maths and language difficult at school and was lucky to have a couple of very understanding teachers who helped correct the damage to confidence and understanding left by some rather less sympathetic practitioners.
