I have taught in junior school and secondary schools in England for a few years. Now I base in Wales. I work with Confucius Institute teachings students in University of Wales Trinity Saint David. As a Chinese educator, I have developed efficient teaching and organization skills in preparing and delivering lessons; and my teaching methods can be tailored to suit different students' progress and abilities. To engage students in the lectures, I like to teach a new concept or theory by using simple drawings and telling the story of how it happens with drawing assistance.

Furthermore, I also adopted mind mapping in each lesson to summarise the main points and present the connections between them or the relationships between different ideas. Encouraging students to make their mind mapping is very useful to foster their understanding of significant points in each chapter.

I also worked in China and Germany teaching English. Since retiring from full time teaching I have been teaching private lessons. I follow the syllabus closely in the case of exam students and make sure that students are confident in all four skills. I elicit information from the students rather than just teach them how something works. By using this method students are more likely to retain the knowledge. I have created different strategies for learning Mandarin depending on the age and language level of the students. For example, I have carefully picked some topics from official Chinese school teaching books, and some lovely popular traditional Chinese stories, then combined them with the real life and work environment around us. So that I can make sure all my students got plenty opportunities to practise what they have learnt from me.
