Personal Description:
I am a PGCE-qualified teacher with two Master's degrees, and I also serve as a Cambridge International examiner. My teaching expertise covers Mandarin GCSE (9-1), IGCSE, GCE (A level), HSK, Japanese GCSE (9-1), and JLPT qualifications. I teach my students both on-site and via Zoom for private students.

Teaching Experience:

I teach both Mandarin and Japanese at local independent schools and universities, and I am also an experienced private tutor. I instruct both simplified and traditional Chinese, as well as Japanese, to both native and non-native students, including professionals. Over the past decade, my students have consistently achieved outstanding results in Edexcel Chinese (9-1) and Japanese GCSEs (9-1), earning A* and Grade 9. Additionally, they have excelled with As in A-level Chinese.

I've successfully tutored numerous students who pursued further 'Oriental studies' at Oxford University, completed an MPhil in Chinese studies at Oxford, and Japanese at Leeds University and Cardiff University.

In addition, I possess a strong working knowledge of the national curriculum and am very familiar with the demands and expectations of both state and independent schooling.

Tutoring Approach:

Encouraging, effective, student-centered approach, and developing a love for learning.

Personal Description:
Nice to meet you! I'm Rebecca; I'm 36 years old and graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology with Clinical and Health Psychology. After university I spent a year as a specialist support worker for adults with autism and autistic traits. I have also completed a Level 2 Counselling Course and a Level 2 in Caring for Children and Young People course. With my psychology degree and experience I am more than happy to cater for students that might need a bit of extra help, and have experience teaching students with Aspergers, Personality Disorder, and depression.

Following uni, I spent nearly 2 years teaching English as a foreign language in Japan. Whilst in Japan, I also learnt how to speak conversational Japanese, and can also read and write hiragana, katakana, and N5/ N4 level kanji. I now tutor Japanese full time, and have been doing so since 2014.

To better understand what is needed for GCSE Japanese, I took my GCSE in 2016 achieving an A*. I also took and passed my JLPT N5 in 2025; I wanted to be able to fully describe the N5 experience to my students. I am happy to help students work towards their GCSE or N5 level Japanese, and I am constantly training to improve my students learning experience.

I'm currently only teaching via Microsoft Teams, as I have a two small children and face-to-face lessons are impractical at the moment.

Teaching Experience:

My teaching experience includes the 2 years I spent teaching English as a foreign language in Japan, where I designed the yearly teaching schedules, lesson plans, and then taught the lessons. My students were from the age of 3 to 65, so I have experience in teaching all ages. Whilst in Japan I also taught beginner's Japanese to foreigners living in my local area.

Since returning to England in 2013 I've been tutoring English and Japanese full time. I took my GCSE Japanese in 2016 achieving an A*, and finally got round to taking and passing the JLPT N5 in 2025. I'm currently teaching around 15 different students 1 to 1, and relish the challenges and individuality between each new student.

I currently volunteer for a local playgroup, where I help to set up and run sessions, and lead the story time and songs.

At university I volunteered for several groups including an activity group for disadvantaged children, assisting in secondary school classrooms, volunteering at the local mental health unit and volunteering as a charity shop assistant.

Prior to this, I often tutored my younger sister (who has Asperger's Syndrome) and helped her to understand her school work. I also clocked up countless hours of babysitting for parents around the local area.

Tutoring Approach:

When students attend my lessons, I like to think that they come not only to learn, but for the experience. I deliver fun, relaxed, friendly lessons where my students can feel comfortable and just enjoy learning something they're interested in. I write and provide all of my own lesson materials, and adapt them to my student's learning style - and then mix in some games to help practice the new vocabulary!

I also encourage my students to message me with questions, or to send pictures of their work for discussions outside of lessons too - so if you're ever stuck during your studies, always know that you've got someone to ask!

Personal Description:
Fully qualified teacher of Japanese and Russian languages (all levels).

I prepare students for GCSE and A-level exams, as well as assess exam results for colleges. I also assist students with all levels of JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) and TRKI (The Test of Russian as a Foreign Language).
I currently teach private individuals, groups, as well as some government organisations and corporate entities.

Being native in Russian, and an expert in the Japanese & English languages, I am acutely aware of the differences between English & Japanese and English & Russian languages, their specific capabilities, nuances and requirements.
I focus on teaching methods that are designed to make learning interactive and fun. I have developed my own strategy for delivering concise and meaningful learning methods to my students to assist their understanding. I enjoy teaching languages; it gives my students an opportunity to communicate with new people and expand their world.

I obtained a Master's Degree in diplomacy/international relations at a top-ranking Moscow University of International Relations (MGIMO) with Japanese and English languages.

In 2000 I undertook the internationally recognised Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) achieving a 'Level 1' pass (the highest attainable level).
From 2000 until 2010 I lived in Japan, and worked in a senior position for a leading Japanese technology company in Tokyo. During this time it afforded me an excellent 'real world' understanding of the Japanese language, its nuances and the fascinating Japanese culture.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching Russian and Japanese languages for about 8 years.
References can be provided.
This website doesn't allow students to leave feedback, but once I have your details I will send you a link to where I have 50+ 5* feedback.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer tutoring on Japanese and Russian languages for all levels from beginner to advanced. My lessons are tailor-made for each person, so no matter what your level or interest, I can ensure you will achieve your goals. Therefore, if you are looking to learn for a holiday, or as a main language I'll be able to help!

Personal Description:
I have lived in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in the United Kingdom since December 2009. I am originally from Kumamoto, where I completed a training course at the EII Japanese Language Centre. I have now been teaching Japanese to students of all levels for nearly ten years.

Teaching Experience:

I started teaching Japanese in Kumamoto, Japan 10 years ago. I teach both children and adults and from absolute beginners to advanced level students. After moving to England I've been teaching from my home.

I also have 8 years experience of teaching online using Skype and an interactive whiteboard for students all over the world. I have worked for a major Japanese online school for 2 years.

I have taught students who aim to take the JLPT exam, the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (from the1st to 5th grade), and who are studying for The Duke of Edinburgh award.

I have also helped business people who are planning to work for Japanese companies.

My lesson fees are as follows:

Face-to-face lessons/Online lessons

• Private Lessons : £28 for a one hour individual lesson

• Group Lessons
2 people : £23per person for a one hour lesson (at my home)
3 people : £20 per person for a one hour lesson
4-5 people : £18 per person for a one hour lesson
6-8 people : £15per person for a one hour lesson

You can take group lessons with your friends or family members. Discounted lesson rates are available if you can collect a group of between 2 and 8 people.

Tutoring Approach:

I begin by introducing essential sentence patterns and teaching how to use them in practise conversations. I use role-play to make the conversations real and teach how to speak Japanese naturally. You will soon realise my lessons are completely different from normal language studies at school and find that my method is both practical and effective.

Personal Description:
I am happy to offer you English, French, Spanish and Russian lessons tailored to your needs.

I am a qualified teacher with 13 years` experience in Moscow, Paris and London.
I graduated from Moscow Pedagogical State University and Pushkin Institute. I hold a Master of Education (distinction). Additionally, I passed the CELTA in Paris and acquired a further DELTA qualification.

I am bilingual in English and Russian and fluent in French and Spanish, so I have always been a part of improving children's cognitive development and helped navigate three different worlds as a majority of my students have been more or less exposed to two or three cultures simultaneously.

I am a well-organised strong classroom performer who is able to effectively communicate with students from diverse backgrounds, varying degrees of ability and ages. Teaching groups and one to one teaching is equally rewarding. However, this is the latter one that gives you an amazing possibility to tailor the session towards the needs, level and capability of a student.

By using my enthusiasm felt by learners and readiness to experiment, I can maintain a positive climate where students can reach their full potential.
As an inspirational teacher with high personal standards, I am committed to the learning and development of my students. I have high expectations of both myself and my students, and show an interest in every student as an individual.

I feel that my greatest strengths are my ability to inspire love of languages in students, to motivate them in developing a lifelong enthusiasm for learning.

I work with students of different levels (Beginner, Elementary, Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate, Advanced) and age groups (preschool children, schoolchildren, students, adults).

I have become a professional private teacher for individuals and companies as I realised my passion is to support those students who are keen on improving Japanese through private tuitions. I have established an academy of Japanese Studies since 2015.

Teaching Experience:

My cooperate training contracts
- SONY (2016-present)
- Tokyo Esque (2017-present)
- Deloitte (2017-2018)
- Bank of Tokyo - Mitsubishi UFJ (2017-2018)
- Ashurst (2016)
- Polar Capital (2015-2016)
- British Museum (2015)

In the past, I taught the Japanese language to
-> the students of BA in Japanese at SOAS (2011 & 2014-2018),
-> the general public, university students and business people at King`s College London (2009-2017),
-> the UK diplomats at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (2013 - 2016),
-> the president and the top managers at Dentsu Aegis Network (2013 - 2014),
-> the students of BA in Japanese at the University of Sheffield (2006 - 2009).

Tutoring Approach:

My passion for language teaching is to contribute to the society where people need more global minded attitudes and mutual understanding. I will help you understand Japanese culture from the native perspective. By absorbing the Japanese mind set, you will begin to perceive, process, and express yourself in an authentic Japanese way. In the lessons (including online lessons), we will explore the speech and body language of native Japanese speakers - this will increase your awareness of the feelings that lie behind Japanese expressions. By following this approach, you will use a more appropriate grammatical structure and word usage, allowing you to speak Japanese more naturally.

Personal Description:
I studied Japanese at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, and I completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Japan. Having lived in Japan for seven years, I have developed a deep understanding of the Japanese language and culture and hold the highest level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency (JLPT N1). In addition to my language expertise, I have experience in traditional Japanese arts, including tea ceremony and calligraphy.

I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for Japanese with learners of all levels, from complete beginners to those preparing to study, work, or travel in Japan. My aim is to make learning Japanese engaging, accessible, and culturally enriching.

Teaching Experience:

With over 10 years of experience in private tutoring and university-level teaching, I have helped students achieve their academic and professional goals, including securing employment and gaining admission to universities in Japan. I have also successfully prepared students for the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), helping them pass levels N5 to N3.

Tutoring Approach:

Every student is unique, with their own learning style, goals, and reasons for studying Japanese. I take these individual differences into account and tailor my lessons to each student's needs. Together, we establish realistic goals and a manageable learning pace, working collaboratively to achieve steady, measurable progress.

I also offer a fast-track Japanese language course based on the methodology I was trained in at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies. This comprehensive programme develops all four language skills, beginning with speaking and listening before progressing to reading and writing. With consistent study, students can expect to reach a level equivalent to JLPT N4 within one year, enabling them to engage in everyday conversations. Within two to three years, they can aim to reach JLPT N3 proficiency, allowing them to understand conversations in a wider range of everyday situations and beyond.

Personal Description:
Experienced Native Japanese Tutor, based in Chehire. Fun, Friendly & Personalised Lessons. All levels are welcome✨

Hello! I'm Keiko, a native Japanese tutor based in Cheshire, in the UK. I love helping people from all backgrounds not just learn Japanese, but truly enjoy the experience and feel confident using it in everyday conversations.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy cooking and discovering delicious food from around the world . I love travelling, spending time with my Jack Russell Terrier Stella, and learning new things myself - at the moment, I'm studying Spanish 🇪🇸 and having fun with guitar, drumming and dancing. As a fellow learner, I really understand the ups and downs of studying a new language.

Whether you're just starting out, returning after a break, or looking to build fluency, I'll guide you in a supportive and enjoyable way - no need to be perfect, just open to learning at your own pace. Lessons with me are friendly, relaxed, and focused on steady progress.

Teaching Experience:

I've been teaching Japanese for over 10 years, both online and in person, to learners of all ages - from young children and teenagers to adults at every level. Each lesson is carefully tailored to suit your individual needs, goals, and interests.

Lessons are taught in Japanese, English, or a mix - whichever you prefer - and always at a pace that works for you. My focus is on making the language practical, accessible, and enjoyable, no matter your reason for learning.

📚 Here's what you can expect at different levels:

🌱 Beginners

- Learn hiragana and katakana step-by-step
- Build useful phrases for daily life and travel
- Begin speaking from the very first lessons
- Pick up natural expressions and everyday slang

🌿 Intermediate learners

- Improve fluency through speaking and listening
- Use grammar and vocabulary in real-world contexts
- Express opinions and ideas clearly
- Start enjoying anime, manga or reading simple articles

🌸 Advanced learners

- Speak more fluently and naturally
- Learn formal and business Japanese (keigo)
- Discuss culture, news, and social issues in Japanese
- Understand subtle, native-level expressions and nuance

In every lesson, you'll receive:
✔ Clear, simple explanations of grammar
✔ Personalised lesson plans
✔ Speaking and listening practice
✔ Encouragement and support - mistakes are always welcome here!

Tutoring Approach:

✨If you've ever thought:
"I want to speak Japanese naturally",
"I love anime or Japanese culture and want to understand more",
or "I'm learning for travel, work, or personal growth" - you're in the right place.

Many learners feel nervous about speaking, or have struggled to stay motivated in the past. That's completely normal - and you're definitely not alone. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, confident, and excited about your progress.

✨In my lessons:

- You can learn at your own pace in a relaxed, friendly environment

- It's perfectly fine to make mistakes - that's how we learn

- Lessons are designed just for you, with your goals in mind

- You'll build real communication skills, not just textbook knowledge

Learning Japanese should feel fun and rewarding, not stressful or overwhelming. I'm here to support you every step of the way and help you enjoy the journey.

Let's build your Japanese skills together - one step at a time, with confidence and a smile. I look forward to meeting you in our lesson!

Personal Description:
I am a specialist GCSE and A-Level Japanese tutor. Over the past six years, I have written full textbooks for both exams, alongside an original beginners' grammar textbook. My students consistently perform excellently in their exams, benefitting from an extremely targeted approach, covering each of the GCSE and A-Level grammar points, topics and tasks in depth.

I am fluent in Japanese and Spanish and offer a unique teaching style, based on 14 years' experience teaching in the UK, Japan and Spain; Japanese study at the highest level (Cambridge University - Double First Class BA / Doshisha University Kyoto - JLPT N1), Communication and Teacher training at Royal Academy of Music (MA Distinction / LRAM Licentiate to Teach) and 20 years' experience working with children and young people in childcare and academic settings.

I currently live in Barcelona and offer online sessions, making use of my own interactive teaching platform.

Teaching Experience:

I have been working as a private tutor for 14 years in the UK, Japan and Spain. Since 2020, I have focused exclusively on Japanese, and in particular the GCSE and A-Level exams. This has allowed me to develop an exceptionally strong exam programme, guiding my students through each step of their chosen exam, regardless of their starting level of Japanese.

I hold a BA (double first-class) from the University of Cambridge (Japanese, 2014) and graduated with the highest results in my year, alongside a national prize for best Japanese dissertation. During my degree, I passed the highest level of the JLPT Japanese Proficiency test (N1 - business level) whilst studying at Doshisha University, Kyoto. After graduating, I went on to volunteer in rural Japan for a year, before entering the Royal Academy of Music, London, to study Performance and Teaching (LRAM, MA, RAMDip - distinction). I began teaching privately in Japan in 2013, and have taught internationally ever since.

Whilst I now focus exclusively on Japanese language and University applications in East Asian studies, over the past decade, I have taught a wide variety of subjects: Japanese, Oxbridge / University Entry, Musical Theatre and Drama, Presentation Skills and Public Speaking, EFL, 4-plus, 7-plus and literacy lessons. I have worked with children as young as two in formal tutoring settings (4-plus examinations / EFL / literacy) both in-person and online, and have extensive experience working part-time in childcare centres, caring for children from just a few months old.

Tutoring Approach:

I offer the only textbooks available specifically following the GCSE and A-Level Pearson Edexcel specifications. Textbooks cover each grammar point of the chosen exam in detail, alongside extensive materials exploring each of the different themes and topics (GCSE) as well as in-depth materials guiding students through the Research Essay and Set Works (A-Level).

I offer support regardless of your current level of Japanese. Classes can be adapted both for students who have never studied Japanese before, as well as for those who already already have some level of Japanese: learners taking Japanese classes at school who feel they need extra guidance, or heritage speakers of Japanese who need to formalise their language skills before taking a GCSE or A-Level exam.

GCSE
My GCSE course consists of three parts. Depending on your level (beginner - native speaker) the course can take 6 months - 4 years. Firstly, students cover each grammar point of the Pearson Edexcel Specification. This is often the longest part of the course, and is suitable for all students, even those not wishing to take a final exam.

We then move onto applying the vocabulary and grammar learned to the GCSE Specification, using my online textbook and interactive learning platform.
The textbook has 5 theme modules. Each contains:
- A full vocabulary list, colour-coded into Foundation and Higher Tiers, alongside further optional vocabulary.
- A full kanji guide, split into kanji to learn to read, and those to learn to write.
- Comprehensive guides to building thorough answers to each specific sub-topic (e.g. Family, Directions, School Rules, Charities, Jobs, Environmental Issues and so on).
- A breakdown of Speaking Exam prompts for each topic (e.g. pros and cons of social media, online shopping, taking a gap year and so on).
- Extensive annotated example paragraphs in the style of writing paper answers, focusing on the theme's sub-topics.

Finally, we focus on exam techniques and exam preparation. I support students to feel confident in each of their papers, spending extra time and developing additional materials and guides for each individual student, to help them conquer any weaker areas of study.

A-LEVEL
I support both students moving from GCSE to A-Level study, as well as heritage speakers of Japanese aiming for a qualification to formalise their skills. Depending on your level, A-Level study can take 6 months - 3 years.

The A-Level course contains:
- Lessons on each A-Level specification grammar point (+ revision of any forgotten GCSE points)
- Vocabulary and kanji lists for the four A-Level themes and their sub- topics.
- Comprehension materials further exploring the theme and sub-topics.
- Full analyses of selected Set Works (Spirited Away; Kitchen; Mado-giwa no Totto-chan).
- Guides to preparing, researching and writing the Research Essay.
- Guides to planning, structuring and writing the Set Works Essays.
- Multiple example essays for the selected Set Works and for each Research theme.

NON-EXAM TRACKS
Alongside the targeted exam textbooks, I write original materials for all my learners from beginners onwards, offering a smooth transition for students from newcomer level through to their next steps, whether that be a formal exam (GCSE, A-Level or JLPT) or not. All lesson content is adapted to suit the needs of each individual student.

For those who do not wish to focus on a UK schools' exam, I support students looking towards N5-N3 JLPT exams, using a variety of original materials and multi-lingual textbooks.

Finally, of course, many of my learners are taking Japanese classes casually for personal or professional development, without aiming for formal exams. I adapt all lessons to the needs and wishes of my students, and can support learners with any goal, at any stage of their journey with Japanese.
