Personal Description:
I am a native Greek speaker, born and bred in Athens. I am also fluent in English and have lived in England since 2000.

I am keeping in close touch with Greece and the Greek language, which allows me to maintain my fluency, accent and knowledge of the country and the culture.

Teaching Experience:

I am an English teacher by profession and taught Greek students in language schools in Athens for fifteen years.

My students attained excellent examination results throughout my career from junior to advanced levels.

I also held private tuition throughout this period.

Since coming to England, I have taught Greek privately to English speakers who were interested in acquiring knowledge of the Greek language for various purposes such as holidays, purchasing property in Greece (holiday homes and permanent residence) and conversing with friends & family.

Tutoring Approach:

First of all, I am a sensitive listener.

I am patient with excellent skills in conveying my knowledge to my students. Focusing on helping students to feel confident with the various aspects of the language without judging them.

Finally, I firmly believe that practice makes perfect, which is also my most significant approach to teaching.

I believe it is important that lessons are interactive and fun. The lessons are customised to the student according to their personal needs, following an initial friendly telephone discussion.

Personal Description:
Hello there - Γεια σου!

I am Stefanos, I am a primary school teacher, special needs teacher and a Greek language tutor currently working in Bristol, England. I am coming from Patras, Greece, where I spent most of my childhood and early adult life. I am passionate in supporting people of all ages to achieve their personal educational goals whatever these may be.

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching in Special Education for 6 years supporting students aged from 7 to 16 years old with a range of learning, mental health and medical difficulties. The last couple years I am privileged enough to work in Primary Education and in teaching Greek as a second language.

For the last 10 years, I have been working as a Greek language tutor. I have had the pleasure to teach a variety of students across all ages, ethnic backgrounds and abilities, from primary-aged Greek students to teenagers and adult learners in the United Kingdom, Greece and on-line from all over the globe.

One my proudest Greek tutoring achievements is to be supporting a group of adult learners with their conversational Greek practice every week for the last 6 consecutive years. This particular group of learners (which I now also call friends) have experienced the positive impact of our lessons in their casual visits in Greece every year.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not follow a single approach in my teaching practice because I do not believe in the one-fits-all method. Upon discussion with the student or the carer(s) I am trying to get a better understanding of the students' goals and ambitions - this normally takes place during the first lesson which comes free of charge. What I am aiming to achieve with that is each lesson to be tailored to the individual learner's needs.

Some of the elements of my teaching methodology involve:
- structured practice,
- speaking and general communicative skills,
- reading skills and writing skills (if necessary)
- cultural understanding behind the semantics of the words
- systematic informal language testing

Personalized teaching material with focus on all aspects of the language (paying special attention to the grammatical and syntactical structure of the language) is provided with every lesson. The learning intentions are established in collaboration with each learner. My main goal is to create a meaningful and fun learning experience by engaging students in an active learning process.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and embarking on this fascinating journey in the Greek language together.

All the best,

Stefanos

Personal Description:
I am a teacher, novelist, and musician from Scotland. I have tutored for many years and taught at preparatory schools. I have also taught English abroad (Italy & Brazil).

I enjoy helping students to overcome their difficulties and find ways to enjoy the language and culture.

Lessons at my house or yours.
Online tutoring is a great way to work on your language (rates negotiable).

Teaching Experience:

12 years with First Tutors, from beginners, through Common Entrance, GCSE and A-level to university.
6 years with Greater London Tutorial Agency/Top Tutors
Latin, Ancient Greek & English:
12 years Classics, Hall Grove, Bagshot.
1 year at Academy School, Hampstead.

Creative Writing: 2 year University of Portsmouth
2 years Islington Summer University.

English as Foreign Language:
1 year St Giles, Sao Paulo, Brazil;
2 years English Academy, Molfetta, Italy, including PET, CAE, CPE, IELTS, TOEFL.

I also teach guitar, bass, piano and Italian.

Tutoring Approach:

Most pupils who come to me have simply lost track or lost confidence.
With careful guidance, it usually doesn't take long to put them back on the right track.

I can help with the building blocks of grammar, presenting it as a puzzle or a game; I can suggest ways to improve vocabulary; and I can point the way through the complexities of translation and syntax. Even working on exam technique can ease anxiety quickly.

I also enjoy enthusing students about classical mythology and literature.

I am happy to teach online as well as in person: with a committed tutee, this can work as well as tuition in person.

I've taught ages three to sixty-five, and am always excited to meet new students and work with various needs. I believe the student-tutor dynamic should be at the heart of a good tutoring set-up, and I have seen this proven in the excellent improvement and results of my past tutees. My students learn to love their subjects and develop a high quality of written communication and critical analysis.

Tutoring Approach:

As a student myself, I'm acutely aware of what works and what doesn't - my lessons involve getting to know the student, and building a rapport to bring the subject to life! I love working with the students I teach to figure out their best approach to each topic; I believe this is the route to achieving the best results. My lessons are highly interactive, involving active learning and recall, and making use of a variety of resources to best fit any individual's learning style. I tailor my courses specifically to my students' goals, whether entrance exams or public assessments, with a focus on weaker areas. Continual recap and revision play an important role in my lessons, as evidence-supported routes to long-term understanding. My students tend to enjoy my lessons, and develop a real love for their subjects! Having studied the languages for 10 years now, I have a full understanding of all the difficulties of Latin and Greek - whether prepping for common entrance or studying towards Classical GCSEs, I take my students step-by-step through everything they need to know. As a successful Oxford applicant, I'm also on hand to help with any application troubles - I'll be happy to read personal statements, give pre-interview test coaching and interview practice: just reach out! I am on call 24/7 to provide support, as well as marking homework outside of lesson time. With six years of experience teaching across all ages, I'm highly flexible and keen to work to each individual situation - please get in touch with all and any questions!

Teaching Experience:

12 years tutoring language for: Adults and young children 7-16, GCSE, IELTS, TOEIC, A1-C2 level

I strongly support verbal exercises so that the learner manages to feel confident on having basic conversations within the first month of learning.

Personal Description:
I was born and raised in Greece where I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Greek Language & Literature at the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens.I recently moved to the UK (2020) to earn my Master's Degree in Language Sciences with specialization in Neuroscience of Language(University of Reading).

I am fluent in both Greek and English. I also speak Spanish and French (proficiency level).

Teaching Experience:

I have been teaching the Greek Language (Modern & Ancient Greek ) since 2012, preparing high school students for the country-wide university entrance exams. In parellel, I was delivering in-home classes to assist students of various age groups with their curricular activities in humanitarian subjects such as History, Modern Greek Language & Literature, Ancient Greek, Philosophy & Religious Studies.I have also worked as a volunteer for the non-profit organization ''METAdrasi'', where I taught young refugees Greek as a second or foreign language. In 2020, I started working for the Greek School of Oxford, preparing students for their GCSE exams in Modern Greek and teaching Year 5 and Year 7 the Greek Language as a Second/Foreign Language.

Tutoring Approach:

Basically I use constructivist teaching approaches and strategies to help my students. I encourage them to actively participate in the learning process and help them develop critical thinking and communication skills in the target language. The material I share with my students is accumulated through all the years of my teaching work and there is a variety of types of exercises I offer to them. I also use a lot of interactive online material like live worksheets, language games such as Wordwall etc. and different kind of resources; newspapers articles, songs, poems, movie dialogues, inscriptions, texts published on social media ,recorded day-to-day conversations between native speakers etc. This helps them not only reinforce their academic knowledge (grammar and syntax) but it also broadens their experience on the cultural and contextual aspects of the language.
