I am a 34 year-old prize-winning Masters graduate in Mathematics from Oxford University, and I also hold Top Candidate Notifications for my performances in A-level maths and further maths, and another such notification for my performance in GCSE Statistics. Teaching Experience:
I have ten full years experience as a full-time private tutor. My role addresses the pitfalls of a mainstream education by truly individualising it, and is perfected through thousands of hours of experience of striving to achieve precisely that. My thirst for knowledge has allowed me to develop a true understanding of mathematical concepts: I have frequently played the role of the consultant throughout my mathematical career, have been able to help my peers and students avoid the pitfalls usually associated with difficult ideas and am able to explain things from numerous angles.

Tutoring Approach:
Traversing the mathematical landscape is an art; it can be a very uncomfortable environment for some. I find it so important to make my students feel at ease and to find confidence in their maths and so important to be friendly and patient. I am not a suited, booted assessor, nor old-school, to be frank! My first session is normally spent working out the best tutoring technique, how motivated the student is and what sort of ability they are. In general though, I like to go through the content as fast or as slow as necessary, and then do some past paper or textbook questions with the student. As well as being a full-time private tutor for nearly 15 years, I have a background in comedy, writing and performance. I've published three humour books and continue to write for theatre companies and private events. I currently work part-time at a secondary school in the area, and have previous experience in an independent school in Hampstead. Alongside tutoring, I have previously worked as a Dyslexia Coordinator and teacher in various schools and colleges, including Harrow College, Uxbridge College, Barnet College, Stanmore College, Weald College, West Herts College, and as a Teacher/Tutor Inspector for Harrow Borough Council. I always say that if a student does not understand how I have explained something, this is my responsibility to rectify, not the student. Repeating instructions is not the key - explaining in different ways is what works.
