I believe the greatest benefit of 1:1 tutoring (or tutoring small groups), is that it is so much easier to tailor the learning to the student's needs, aiding understanding and building on that towards mastery of a subject. As an experience Deputy Head, English Teacher and GCSE Examiner I strive to create a welcoming and supportive environment for my students to feel as ease and confident when it comes to English and those all important exams. Literature is more than just words on a page; it is a gateway to understanding the human experience through different lenses and eras.

What excites me most is helping students find their own voice and witnessing the "lightbulb moment" when a complex text suddenly clicks. Whether we are deconstructing a classic play or refining a persuasive essay, I love showing learners how to harness the power of language to express themselves with clarity, confidence, and flair. Helping someone transform from a hesitant reader into a critical thinker is the most rewarding part of being a Tutor.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for just under 20 years, and tutoring for just under 15 years. Whilst I love my time in the classroom, nothing quite matches the one-to-one experience of working with students, especially supporting individuals to pass their GCSE English exams.

Tutoring Approach:
Every lesson is a collaborative journey that begins with a quick, high-energy check-in to see what is currently clicking - or clashing - in the classroom. We start with a "Mastery Minute" challenge, usually a creative writing prompt or a quick-fire analysis of an unusual text, to get your brain in gear and shake off the school day. Because no two students think alike, I swap rigid plans for a flexible toolkit. If you are a visual learner, we might map out a Shakespearean tragedy using digital storyboards; if you are more analytical, we will "live-mark" a model answer to hunt for those elusive top-tier marks. Hi! My name is Joyce and I'm in my final year studying Education in Cardiff University. I've worked in many different Nurseries, Primary and Secondary schools through agencies within Wales, and after working 1-1 with pupils that needed extra support, I have acknowledged that support is needed regarding their literacy and numeracy skills.
I want to highlight many different methods and techniques to help with your learning knowledge, with an approach of breaking down the question until it is clear and understandable for you. My GCSE and A-Level qualifications from the WJEC exam board in my favour, and my experience with 1-1 pupils will help me understand your individual needs. I've supported many different pupils, alongside SEN students, and assisted a calm, slow and helpful manner within my teaching. I understand the difficulties when it comes to learning in a structural approach, as everyone's learning progress and abilities are different. I am here to help you with these challenges, because I believe everybody can find what works best for them! My lessons are aimed at KS2 and KS3 pupils, and to help those who would like to build their confidence by familiarising yourself with exam questions, and finding methods that best fit you!
