I was born into a French-speaking family and have spoken French my entire life. I have a BA from the London School of Economics in French and Linguistics. I have also lived in France for several years. I have taught French privately for over 20 years and many of my students achieve very high standards. Personal Description:
I welcome children into a positive, stimulating environment, where each child is valued and can learn effectively. I am proactive, ambitious, have a sense of humour, honest, enthusiastic and conscientious of others as well as a valued team member. I believe that effective learning happens when children are inspired, motivated and challenged in a positive environment where they feel happy and praised. I have a desire to promote reading for pleasure and I love to tell stories and listen to children read. I also enjoy teaching mathematics, problem solving and making learning fun. In my spare time, I enjoy pilates as well as going for walks and socialising with friends and family.

Teaching Experience:
I have 8 years of qualified teaching experience with whole classes and 1:1. I have experience in both England and wales so have a strong m knowledge of both national curriculums. I have lots of experience working ALN children and differentiate lessons to meet every child's needs!

Tutoring Approach:
I like to develop positive relationships with children I teach and therefore I enjoy engaging with children through their personal interests and humour. I find out which areas each child requires improvement before setting a range of activities to develop their learning. I address the VAK (Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic) learning styles of children that I teach and use a creative approach to teaching. I like to assess individuals through games to increase engagement and encourage independent learners, aiming to increase self esteem and confidence.

Personal Description:
I am an A level English teacher with ten years' experience in sixth form colleges, and I currently work at Peter Symonds College in Winchester. I had some maternity cover on my timetable this year, and that's just ended, so I've got some time for tutoring.

My degree was in English Literature but since teaching English Language A-level in my first job, I've become very interested in linguistics, and recently worked at the Survey of English Usage at University College London (for some reason this site won't let me post a URL but you can hear me asking Professor Bas Aarts grammar questions on the EngliciousUCL soundcloud).

I have written articles on The Handmaid's Tale and the work of Cormac McCarthy for emagazine (the English & Media Centre's A-level publication), and my article on the role of the visual imagination in reading is in December's edition. I have also written other pieces of journalism for national publications.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English Literature, English Language and the joint English Language & Literature course on a range of specifications, as well as GCSE English Language and the Extended Project (in Creative Writing). My first job in education was as a Teaching Assistant in a primary school, so I am used to adjusting my approach to suit different levels(!). Several of my former students are now English teachers and one is currently on the Forensic Linguistics MA at Aston University.

Tutoring Approach:
It's important to have an initial discussion to establish what you want from tutoring and assess where you are so we can decide what will be most useful to cover. I'm experienced and friendly and I try to make lessons as enjoyable as possible (esepcially with technical language terminology, which can otherwise be dry).

At the moment it obviously seems like remote lessons are necessary but usually I think in-person sessions work much better.
