I always try to make my lessons fun and my aim is to always tailor my method to suit the student's individual needs. In my language lessons I tend to focus on the student's oral communication skills. I start each lesson by revising earlier material (usually through a communicative activity or an interactive one) and then I move on to new material. GCSE's

Jack's mock results were an E in English Language as well as a D in literature and he wanted to do Economics A level which required a B grade in his final GCSE. Jack had two hours of tuition per week from January to May. He enjoyed going (this surprised me as he hated English before the sessions) and had a new found likeness for literacy. He received a B in both language and literature and can now do A level economics. Jack related very well to David- this made learning easier for Jack and he obtained the grades he needed. His teachers at school noticed a marked improvement in his work when he was having tuition.

Oliver was falling behind in Math's and English. I am very happy to say that his confidence and his ability to retain what David teaches him has improved greatly. Oliver doesn't seem to think about his lesson as lesson, he genuinely enjoys spending Saturday mornings at David's as he now really wants to improve himself! Wow!!!

Tutoring Approach:
I believe that learning should be fun and not a burden! My main focus when teaching is to ensure the child is engaged, active and interested. I'm a hardworking, patient individual looking to improve the skills and confidence of my students by increasing their understanding rather than just telling them what is needed to complete their tasks.

I take a lot of time to plan individual lessons and strive to tailor each of them to the child's specific requirements. Every child is different so every lesson will be different. I initially like to talk to the children / parents and see where they think the weaknesses lie, also simple assessments such as past exam papers can highlight areas that need looking at. Maths and English can be challenging subjects for children, therefore I try to keep things simple and work step by step, to assist the student in understanding the concepts, also polishing the basics as we go along.

Over the years I have gained a diverse repertoire of skills to assist learning at all levels, along with a variety of tried and tested lessons to keep students engaged. I try to work in support of the pupil's school lessons, concentrating on challenging topics and areas where they lack confidence. I enjoy bringing a diverse range of materials and teaching methods to engage my students and help them to retain what they learn.

I have a first class honours degree in English and Politics from the University of York - I love English and I want you to love it too! I have been tutoring online (in addition to my classroom teaching), since 2016 using a range of online platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Teams. I am a passionate English teacher with experience working with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students both in mainstream school settings, as well as online as part of alternative provision for both groups and 1:1.
