I have been teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A level students now for more than 20 years - and I achieve great results.

I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I feel its important to motivate students and help increase their confidence. I have tutored and homeschooled online and in person since 2012 in KS2 Literacy and Literature, 11+ & 13+ examinations, KS3 literacy, and GCSE/A Level examinations in English Language and English Literature across the full range of exam boards. From September 2017 to June 2024 I worked in London as a secondary teacher of English Literature and Language, RSE and Citizenship from KS3 to GCSE, with an 100% pass-rate at 7 (A) and above.

James is a freelance theatre director who trained at RADA and the Kings Head Theatre in London.

I have directed several theatre productions at drama schools, fringe and off-west end theatres. As an Associate Director, I have worked in the West End on numerous productions including The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe and the Olivier and Grammy-nominated Amelie The Musical. I have also worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company as an Assistant Director on their sell-out show A Christmas Carol starring Adrien Edmondson.

Teaching Experience:
In my early career I taught at Theatrix Performing Arts School and directed students through Trinity College London acting examinations as well as public performances. My students achieved a 100% pass rate with Merits or Distinctions in their performance examinations. Theatrix recently gained notoriety after alumni Ambika Mod starred in the hit Netflix television series One Day.

I have been a guest director at three drama schools including Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, Drama Studio London and Court Theatre Training Company.

In the critical examination of literature, particular attention is given to structure and developing a mature, yet fresh, personal response. I tend to adopt a modelling approach. Effectively, the tutee and I draft a first core essay on a given text, say, for example, 'Romeo and Juliet' Using this exemplar, the tutee is then assigned further essay questions, drawing upon this core essay as a guideline. Support is given throughout the writing process and constructive feedback is offered in the form of stage-appropriate targets to ensure progress.

I am kind, patient and positive to support those who need their confidence building, however have effective behaviour management skills and teachings methods to suit children who may be harder to engage. I have worked with children who are reluctant to go to school and am also happy to work alongside parents homeschooling children.

I'm a qualified primary teacher currently teaching Year 4 and offering KS1-KS2 tutoring. Sessions are structured, supportive and tailored to individual needs. Please feel free to message me if you would like to chat further.

Teaching Experience:
I have experience working across the primary age range, specifically in Nursery and Years 2, 3, 4, and 5. This has given me a deep understanding of the EYFS framework and the Key Stage 1 and 2 National Curriculum. In my time in Year 4, I have successfully supported students through assessment periods, tailoring my support to help them achieve their learning targets in English and Maths. I am comfortable adapting my style for younger learners (using play-based learning) as well as older students (focusing on exam technique and deeper comprehension).
