Hello,
I have completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I also have an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I also have a good Fine Art degree from Chelsea College of Art and Design. I have been a private tutor for twenty years, and have taught many children in that time.

I am currently tutoring in Wadebridge in Cornwall but can offer Skype or Zoom lessons.

I'm 49, married and am an aunt and godmother.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught at undergraduate level at university as well as writing skills in an academic skills centre. I have also taught SATs to thirteen year olds. I have a PTTLs degree level 4 qualification and taught on an Access Course to adult learners.

I use past exam papers, model essays, and devote time and attention to close reading of set texts at GCSE and A-Level. I have also given art lessons.

I sincerely believe that each student can thrive in English given the right approach and attention, and so I left full time secondary teaching to become a self-employed personal tutor. I have extensive knowledge of a broad range of history, music, art and literature, with particular expertise in the medieval, Renaissance and early Modern periods, the eighteenth century, the European folk revival, and - in music - post-tonal and contemporary composition, although I also teach more broadly, including on modern topics. I share details of and blog about medieval and Renaissance Italian art, drawing on my own photography and travels in Italy, at Treasures of Renaissance Italy.

My teaching in Music and Design and Technology is further underpinned by extensive industry experience in music (as a composer, director, producer and singer), graphic design and the creative arts more broadly. I produced and artistically directed my first opera production, Monteverdi's L'Orfeo, in 2016, with an international cast of singers from several leading British and European conservatoires, and I'm currently Artistic Director and co-Musical Director of the semi-professional early music and early opera ensemble, Theatron Oneiron, which I founded as a first-year undergraduate. As a freelance composer, my compositions have won competitions at a national level and been performed by such artists as the BBC Singers. I'm also a classically trained, semi-professional singer, currently a Choral Exhibitioner in the Choir of The Queen's College, Oxford, and formerly a Choral Scholar at Guildford Cathedral and Exeter College, Oxford, and member of the Iken Scholars among many other ensembles; and I frequently perform as a recitalist and as a soloist in oratorios and opera productions. I previously studied both piano and violin. In art and design, my experience encompasses both artistic and technical drawing, product design, poster design, and production design for the stage, and my work includes an award-winning scaled model and card model kit of Guildford Cathedral.

Teaching Experience:
I have substantial experience of a range of learning environments and teaching styles, including home education, project- and inquiry-based learning, the Oxbridge tutorial format, and classroom-style teaching in both the private and the state sectors.

I worked as a Teaching Assistant at Chelsea Academy, London, in 2013-14, as part of RGS Guildford's Outreach Scheme there. I have led and assisted classes for year groups and ability levels from Year 7 to GCSE and top to bottom sets, and previously provided mentoring to Oxbridge applicants. More recently, my experience includes one-to-one tutoring in humanities subjects, English as a Second Language, and Music Theory. My own teaching style is greatly influenced by my own fruitful experiences of home education (to age eleven) and the Oxbridge tutorial format. I prioritise the greater scope for intellectual flexibility and curiosity, intrinsically-motivated learning, and heightened freedom to range across subjects and pursue individual topics in greater depth according to each student's interests characteristic of both of these learning environments. I combine these foci with rigorous, comprehensive attention to exam syllabi to ensure that teaching and learning remain carefully targeted towards my students' desired grades in any traditional summative assessments such as school entrance exams, GCSEs or A-Levels.

All my tutoring is student-centred, guiding and facilitating my students in their own learning, in contrast to traditional teacher-centred instruction. I work with each student to tailor lessons to their individual learning style and priorities (whether understanding subject material, exam content, or honing particular skills such as analysis or argument). I am a hardworking, enthusiastic mother of a 3 year old boy. I am a Primary School Teacher and have worked with many children in variety of settings and roles. I am versatile and good at adapting to new situations. I am reliable and punctual and fair. I enjoy being with my family, caravan holidays, reading, watching a good film or series, swimming and going to Church. I am always keen to learn more and develop my knowledge of how children learn and develop through keeping myself updated with new initiatives and taking part in CPD training on various subjects. I have worked with children since leaving school, it was always something I was passionate about. I became a Nursery Nurse and worked in a Nursery settings for a time and worked my way up to Base Room Manager. I worked for a long time in a Private Preparatory school as a Teaching Assistant where I completed my Degree in Early Years Education.
I then took a year out of work to undertake my PGCE to become a Qualified Primary School Teacher. I worked in a school in Ashford for my NQT year and then worked in a school in Stanwell for the next 4 years until I had my son, who is now nearly 3 years old. Since my son was born, I have worked as a nanny for families who allow a nanny with own child. My last role was for nearly 2 years but unfortunately my role was made redundant because the parents are now working from home and they no longer needed the level of support they needed before COVID. I am currently working with a family of 5 for 3 afternoons a week providing wrap around care. I also tutor their son who is 9 years old. He has made significant progress with his reading and writing.

I enjoy tutoring children because it means I can give them my undivided attention which means I can understand that particular child's knowledge and skills on a far deeper level. This is where my Early Years background really helps as I can identify different learning styles and adapt the way I teach to suit each child. This is very much a part of the Early Years Curriculum so I am used to being reflective and using different strategies to help children learn to the best of their ability. I enjoy tutoring because it allows me to see how children grow and learn and most of all gain in confidence so they are able to learn more effectively in all their subjects.
Throughout the session I will assess the child's progress and use this information to plan for the next session. As the spiral curriculum dictates I will also revisit past learning to ensure the child has a firm grasp of the concepts that have been taught previously. I am teaching French and German I will start off using speech methods, so that the student feels relaxed and able to learn. This is very important. Depending on how we go we can then progress to pens and paper. Learning at this level ought to be enjoyable. I also teach adults at this level. I seek to build confidence in students, so that they can encounter native speakers and be able to do simple tasks like ordering meal in a cafe and an item of clothing in a shop. I have GCSE French and A level German.

Teaching Experience:
I have dyslexia, so I am sensitive to those who have this condition. I go at a slow pace to make sure the knowledge is consolidated before we move on. There is no hurry in learning either of these languages. Better to learn solidly and slowly
than poorly and in a rush. I teach in short sessions as these are most beneficial. There is homework if students want it. I am DBS cleared.

Tutoring Approach:
I am patient and empathetic and these are vital qualities in a teacher. I have travelled frequently to France in recent years, chiefly to Burgundy and also to Paris. I have a also been to Germany --I know Konstanz quite well and have been to Berlin.
Part of learning a language is learning more about the culture of these countries. I hope the students will be able to do this.

I am a dedicated and passionate teacher currently working with primary 1/2 students, and I have had experience working with children of all ages. I am GTC registered and have an PVG to work with children. Outside of the classroom, I have been involved in Girl Guiding and have had various opportunities to engage with children in different school settings. This has allowed me to develop a well-rounded understanding of how children learn and grow in different environments.

I am a passionate English teacher with experience working with Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students both in mainstream school settings, as well as online as part of alternative provision for both groups and 1:1. I have experience working with students with high anxiety and social/emotional/mental health challenges that present a barrier to accessing lessons in school, or benefit from further tuition. I have a lot of experience working with students with SEND, particularly students with ADHD, ASD and/or dyslexia. As well as supporting academic progress, I aim to ensure support with flourishing holistically too.

I currently live in Northern Ireland, but my career has been based in England (mainstream city schools in and around Norwich) and with students across England and Wales via an alternative provision supporting students via a virtual school. I have predominantly taught AQA English Language and AQA English Literature, but have experience with Eduqas and OCR too. I have a strong understanding of exam requirements and can adapt to teach other boards, as required by the student. I love to foster creativity through reading and writing, where possible tying this to student interests. I am friendly and approachable, always keen to hear more about what makes students happy. 2 years working with City Academy Norwich: Working as a Teacher of English, as well as a Second in Department in my second year, with responsibility for Key Stage 3 curriculum and assessment design, and literacy programmes across lower Key Stage 3. In this role I also took on pastoral responsibilities as a form tutor.

Teaching training placements in both a large inner-city school with high levels of SEND, EAL and socio-economic disadvantage, as well as a small, rural Ofsted Good school.

1 year as an English-specific Learning Support Assistant and Instructor within an inner-city school. This role involved supporting individual students and groups to engage with lessons and be supported with breaking down tasks, as well as stretching more-able students. Interventions were also provided as additional support for Year 11 groups in the lead up to exams.

Tutoring Approach:
My goal with tutoring to not just instruct students, but to empower them to be proactive learners. I am passionate about metacognition and aiding students in being aware of their thinking, maintaining curiosity and instilling faith in their beliefs and abilities. I hold a BA in English from The University of Liverpool and an MA also in English Literature.

Teaching Experience:
I have taught English for 9 years now across a number of schools in Merseyside and London. I currently work as a Lead Practitioner of English and Lead for Key Stage 4, though I have also previously led in my school on Key Stage 5 English Literature also.

I have also marked extensively at GCSE and A Level for the AQA exam board - so I know what students need to do to achieve marks - and have had a lot of success previously with predicting exam questions for GCSE Literature.

My particular specialisms are GCSE English Language, GCSE English Literature and A Level English Literature, particularly within the AQA specifications. I can be particularly of help also with the following set texts: Macbeth, Romeo
