I have been tutoring continuously on a part time basis for 12 years, typically working with 5 or 6 students at any one time. I have spent several years living and working abroad, so this has given me quite an international outlook. I have a BA Honours Degree in English Studies from Aleppo University in Syria in 2000. I embarked on two Postgraduate Diplomas at Aleppo University one in Linguistics (2002); the other in Education and Qualification in 2003. In both of these Diplomas I was awarded a Distinction. It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. I have been teaching secondary English for over 10 years and have experience of working with students of all abilities and needs. I am currently in my seventh year at a school that is consistently ranked in the top 10 in Surrey.
I currently teach AQA GCSE English Literature & Language, AQA A-Level English Literature, and AQA A-Level English Language. I have also examined for AQA GCSE English Literature for the last seven years.
I am confident in delivering both content and skills for the AQA specification and am happy to consider tutoring for other exam boards depending on the texts required.
I am also the lead teacher for Key Stage 3 English at my school and have extensive experience working with this age group.

Tutoring Approach:
I am happy to travel to your home or host tutoring sessions online.
I believe in working alongside a student's school and current education. I will work with a student and parents to establish areas in need in English Language and/or English Literature, then provide teaching and resources to complement and extend current knowledge and skills. I am happy to mark work between sessions when there is a focus on exam style responses.
