It is the application of an integrating approach for the development of communicative skills in the lesson, in which the four skills in the acquisition of knowledge of a foreign language can be taught in a coherent way, and practiced together, with a distinction of the importance of one upon the other. One image for teaching English as a second or foreign language (ESL/EFL) is that of a tapestry. The tapestry is woven from many strands, such as the characteristics of the teacher, the learner, the setting, and the relevant languages (i.e., English and the native languages of the learners and the teacher). For the instructional loom to produce a large, strong, beautiful, colorful tapestry, all of these strands must be interwoven in positive ways. I'm an author and a poet, I have had many poems published, won first prize in an international poetry competition (2011) and have also brought out two collections, which are on sale on Amazon. In 2015 I published my memoir A Hippopotamus at the Table. Set in South Africa in the 1970s. I'm about to publish my second memoir and published a book called Writing Memoir. Hello there! 🍁 I'm a friendly Canadian who's made the UK my home. Teaching English is not just my profession; it's my passion. Over the years as a volunteer, I've had the incredible opportunity to work privately with students from diverse corners of the world - South America, Europe, and, of course, back home in Canada. These experiences have deepened my love for helping others learn English, whether it's their second language or they're looking to polish their reading and writing skills in their first language.

What truly inspires me is working with adults who, for various reasons, have limited reading and writing skills. Witnessing their journey of learning and improvement is a real privilege. It's incredibly rewarding to see someone gain confidence in their abilities and open up new opportunities for themselves through language.

But it's not just adults I've had the pleasure of teaching. I've also worked with children, including my own little ones, to give them a head start in their schooling. Preparing them for the early years of school, and making it fun and engaging, is something I find truly fulfilling.

Whether it's guiding someone to discover the joys of reading or helping them express themselves more confidently in writing, or deciding to learn English, I'm all about making learning an enjoyable and enriching experience.

I have experience with distance learning and a deep understanding of the requirements of teaching online with ease and efficiency. Prior to pursuing studies in Psychology (BSc and MSc), I completed an 'MA in Applied Linguistics and Translation' and a 'BA in English Language and Literature'. I am qualified and experienced in teaching English/Arabic as a foreign language (Postgraduate Diploma in TEFL and RSA C.O.T.E.). I am fluent in Arabic and English.

Teaching Experience:
I have extensive experience in teaching: taught languages (both English and Arabic as foreign languages) and translation at university level, school level and for occasional adult learners (both formally and privately). I have taught many age groups in the past ranging from Primary stage to University level and adult occasional learners. I have consistently received positive feedback on my tutoring skills and interpersonal communication skills. Previous to becoming freelance, I taught various subjects at the University of London and the University of Westminster; in addition to various freelance teaching and translation positions abroad during my years living abroad. I am a member of the British Psychological Society: MBPsS (Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society).
