Teaching Experience:
I have taught for over 20 years around the world teaching IT and related subjects for companies such as Learning Tree, Peritas and IBM. I was one of the first qualified network engineers in the UK.

In 2006 I took and passed the Cambridge University CELTA course and exams and now teach English as a foreign language either one to one or to small groups ranging in age from 14 to adult both in the UK and in schools across Europe.

Business related courses include presentation skills and the art of public speaking; gender dysfunctionality courses and IT services courses (operating systems, networking, technologies, A+ etc)

Tutoring Approach:
With English the aim is to provide a personal conversation led approach to learning supported by written exercises to confirm the rules. Depending on the numbers involved the approach is practical and involves music, role playing, presentations, reading and writing skills. All training is geared to the needs of the individual and there is no set approach.

Language teaching can be more effective in groups and the cost for 2-4 students is 25 per hour. Please ask about larger group sizes.

All teaching can be for groups of up to 16. Costs will depend on numbers and location. Please ask for a quote. All rates exclude traveling costs and teaching materials.

Although I learned all my foreign languages through a rigorous method very much based on writing and grammar, I am happy to adapt my method to my pupil's needs. This year, I have taught my younger brother a 2 year higher level Japanese syllabus in 6 months for his Leaving Certificate exams, as he only found out in January there was a foreign language requirement for the course he wants to take in university. This was achieved through clever resources and study plan. With only 6 months tuition (one quarter of the usual 2 year syllabus time), my brother passed higher level Japanese with a grade equalling between 50-60%.

Other language teaching experience:
While in Japan I taught Japanese students English as a Foreign Language, from ages 4 to 20; in Ireland I gave casual English lessons to a Lithuanian woman who already had conversational English, but wanted to better understand certain English grammatical points; I also have a TEFL 160 course to teach English as a Foreign Language.

Other teaching experience:
I teach beginners piano every week from home.

Tutoring Approach:
Using the concepts learned in my Linguistics degree for language learning (L+1, Optimised Intervals for Repetition and Content Exposure for Memorisation Incentive), we will put a study plan in place with clever resources to ensure language learning is both fun and effective! We want our lessons to be so effective that we spend less time studying, and more time learning :)
