Basildon English (Foreign Language) Tutors and Basildon English (Foreign Language) Tuition

Personal Description:
I am a qualified language teacher with 30+ years' teaching experience. My credentials include
MPhil, Combined Degree in teaching English and German, Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults - CELTA (Grade B), Cambridge Certificate of Achievement in Teaching English Online

I'm a highly educated native Russian speaker and
I consider English my second mother tongue (having been immersed in it since the age of 10 and having lived in the UK for over 20 years).

Having done a great deal of studying, reading and teaching through the years, I'm passionate about passing my knowledge to others. I feel that I have a lot to offer to those who're looking for extra help or guidance in improving their English skills.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching English as a foreign language at different levels since 1984, first in Russia and since 2001 in the UK.
I've worked with students of different age groups at a range of educational levels. My employers included mainstream schools, a Teacher Training Institute, an Academy of Economics and Management, and specialized language schools.

After completing a Cambridge CELTA course, I taught English to groups of international students at Brooklands College on General English, IELTS preparation, and ESOL Skills for Life courses.

My field of expertise and special interest is the Modern English Grammar. With my help, students achieve better understanding of how the language is structured and organised; with practice, their overall linguistic performance improves as well.

I'm currently teaching private students in these areas:
- General Conversational English
- English Grammar

I provide individual tuition online using Skype, Zoom, and WhatsApp, with support via e-mail or text/voice chat.

Tutoring Approach:
Throughout my teaching career I have always tried to adjust my teaching style and methods to the learners' individual needs and circumstances, my priorities being high professionalism and reliability.

As a dedicated teacher, I never stop learning and developing my professional skills, which allows me to offer my students the best in modern teaching methods.

Here is some of my students' feedback:
"I can highly recommend Galina as an excellent teacher. Her teaching materials are interesting and relevant with a lot of variety. She is always patient and her encouragement will help you to progress rapidly. Galina strives to bring out the best in every student and her experience and friendly manner will make this a pleasurable experience."
Lucy.
"Now 64, I have taken over 50 part-time and evening courses in arts, languages and computing during my adult life. Galina is one of the most inspiring and competent teachers I have had. I look forward to joining her more advanced class." Martin.

Friendly, approachable, a good sense of humour, empathetic, patient, dedicated and enthusiastic about teaching, I do my utmost to ensure that my students feel that their learning experience is fulfilling and rewarding.

I do not drive so rely on public transport to get me to and from tutoring jobs, I have put a 10 mile limit on my details but am willing to consider longer distances, however this may incur further travel costs so must be negotiated at the time of booking.

Teaching Experience:
Over 20 years experience teaching 14 years to adults, teaching CV writing (and all areas of Employability), Basic and Soft Skills (including confidence building), Business Enterprise Levels 1, 2 & 3, NVQ Business Administration Levels 1 an 2 and ESOL pre-entry to Level 2.

Additionally, I have gained diplomas in Aroma Stress Therapy, Flower Essence Therapy, and in Crystal Healing; and can now offer any of the therapies themselves, or teach the basics of them.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to teaching is to get to know my students and identify their particular needs, then, working together, devising a programme best suited to them. I am flexible and adaptable according to the student's needs, learning style and learning barriers.

I am more than willing to adapt whatever programme of delivery decided on to best suit the needs of my student, for instance with regard to number of hours per week, number of weeks needed etc. I am also happy to take the ESOL teaching sessions 'outside' - ie go shopping, buy tickets etc for more practical learning (any additional expenses such as extra travel, lunch etc to be negotiated prior to session taking place).

Personal Description:
IN PERSON and ONLINE Tutoring! Either way I always create a very good connection with my students.
I am a native of Italy who has lived in the UK for 35 years and has well adapted to the British system of education, still bringing in some of the flavour of her own mother country in connection with love and curiosity for languages, cultures, and contacts with people and their cultures through the activity of teaching.

Teaching Experience:
I have been in the field of teaching languages (Italian being my special subject) for 21 years and have taught for all these years at all levels: children, GCSE, Highers level, University level, and adult classes both vocational and leasure/tourist.
My qualifications include a ESOL-Celta (Univ. of Cambridge) in teaching English as a Foreign Language to children and adults; a degree in English language and literature, as well as French language and literature; a PhD in Italian Studies. I have had mostly experience of teaching at University level in both language and culture (literature and cinema) in the last 10 years where my teaching ranges from beginners through to advanced level of Italian Language; and all levels of culture tutoring; translation studies.

Tutoring Approach:
IN PERSON and ONLINE Tutoring! Either way I always create a very good connection with my students.
My teaching approach to tutoring varies from objective to objective. Languages should always be taught in a full immersion style, especially when it is targeting groups of people who are doing it for either vocational or personal reasons.
Tutoring of subjects such as languages with an objective such as GCSE or Highers or indeed University exams must take into account the syllabus that students must complete in order to reach their target: i.e. pass exams and, at the same time, learn in an effective though 'unforgettable' way. The majority of classes must be delivered in the target language, however in order to meet timing of syllabus coverage and exams some of the concept must be strengthened in the student's language.
In an ideal world, where no exams or timed targets exist, then tutoring of a language should happen 100% in the target language.

GCSE student feedback examples from AQA English Lit & Lang, Y11 students. Each student received 1 hour's weekly Zoom tuition for 1 academic year (references available):

'Before Joanna started helping me with my English I was set to fail my English GCSEs, but with her help she helped me become more confident in myself and my abilities with English. She is a lovely, kind, funny person and her teaching methods definitely helped me to get passes in both English literature and language. I honestly couldn't be more grateful for help and her patience in getting me through some very tough months.'

'I finished bottom of my English class at the end of year 10 and Joanna helped me turn things around by moving up 6 entire grades and surpassing most of the other students in my class. Joanna's friendly, knowledgeable approach to tuition has really helped me this year and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend her to anyone.'

'Before Joanna I lacked confidence in my English abilities and I was predicted a grade 6. However, Joanna really turned things around for me and I received two 8s in my English GCSEs. I would strongly recommend Joanna as she helped me to feel exceptionally prepared for my exams and I looked forward to her sessions every week.'
