My approach is to identify the students need whether that's understanding the content fully or being able to apply their knowledge to exam questions. Or indeed whether the student needs to practise structuring their writing to more clearly align with the mark schemes from the examiner. Ideally students should use the sessions to enable them to become more independent in their learning rather than tutoring for perpetuity.
