Tutoring Approach:
I believe one to one private tuition requires a tutor who can adapt to the needs of the pupil. Ideally (although not crucially-entirely online is also possible) I would wish to meet the pupil initially to establish how they may best be assisted and what the pupil's key areas of concern are. Each mind, young or old, needs different approaches and I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs and requirements of every student.

My approach, in most cases would be to follow a curriculum, finding out where their difficulties lie within this curriculum and how it would be best to resolve them.

I tend to use past papers when it comes to exam based tuition as this is ultimately what they will be faced with come exam time! However, when I have a pupil for longer there is more scope for more imaginative teaching or simply assistance with difficult homework.

With each of my previous pupils I have needed and been able to assist them in a way that is individually appealing to them and I have never had a pupil who has not achieved their desired results.

I trained as an actor at Arts Educational schools and have forty years experience working as an actor, director, writer and trainer. For ten years I worked as an audio director, directing many of the UK's leading actors in recordings of 150 audio books, poetry collections and drama. As a writer I have seen my plays produced in repertory theatre and by small touring companies and have also written for TV. I have been coaching people in presentation skills, acting and elocution since 2003. I teach young adults aged 18 and over and adults of any age.

As Senior Teacher/ Teacher in Charge, of a Medical Pupil Referral Unit I headed up a dedicated team of skilled teachers who worked with young people on a 1:1 and small group basis. I am well aware of the current concerns with the mental health of young people and aim to support those I work with in a positive and sensitively focused manner. Many of my student's have experienced exam anxiety, dyslexia and learning difficulties which has made school a problematic environment for them. I was Head of performing arts in a school in Dorset for seventeen years. During that time I worked extensively with children of all ages. I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature and Drama from Manchester University.

I've been tutoring for nearly 15 years, working with students aged 6 years, up to 18, supporting them through KS1-4, GCSE and A'Level/IB curricula. I have also taught English as a foreign language. The content of my tutorials is entirely student- led; i.e I work towards the individual's goals and learning styles. - In spring 2019 I attended a 3 month international advanced training course on the Lecoq pedagogy of movement theatre led by master Giovanni Fusetti in Padua, Italy, which incredibly deepened and refined my understanding of the student/teacher relation and enormously widened the ways I can adapt and carry out a class according to the personality and the needs/goals of the students. 430h of training.

- Since I moved to London I have taught Italian to many people, students, casual learners, people seeking accents reductions....from an English couple who have travelled to Italy many times, are really fond of the culture but have never got down to learning the language, to a Japanese woman who lives in the City and has working relationships with Italy. - In 2008 I worked as a teaching assistant in a kindergarten in Reykjavk for 8 months. This kindergarten had a special program of integration between kids with special needs (especially hearing impaired ones) and kids with no special requirements, which showed to be very successful. Teaching is, without any doubt, one of the most important jobs ever. This might sound a cliche but it is what I really think. In Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation (previously Close Reading), my experience as an SQA marker provides tutees with an invaluable insight into exam strategies needed for success. Certainly, this experience leads me to use a specific question type / specific formula answer approach. Tutees are encouraged to identify a particular question type, e.g. 'the context question', and then use the appropriate formula to gain maximum marks. Thereafter, the tutee is asked to practise this particular type of question whilst also undertaking whole close reading passages containing said question type.

In the critical examination of literature, particular attention is given to structure and developing a mature, yet fresh, personal response. I tend to adopt a modelling approach. Effectively, the tutee and I draft a first core essay on a given text, say, for example, 'Romeo and Juliet' Using this exemplar, the tutee is then assigned further essay questions, drawing upon this core essay as a guideline. Support is given throughout the writing process and constructive feedback is offered in the form of stage-appropriate targets to ensure progress.

I have just come out of fulltime education at East 15 acting school and am looking to get into teaching. Having recently done an online cause to become a member of learning support staff I have acquired a large variety of skills needed to go into education. My passion is acting and hope to continue with a full BA course in it at some point in the future. As well as acting I also have a love for English as a subject and have become an avid writer over the course of the last few months. While it has been difficult with the limitations of Covid 19 I hope to be able to support learners who have an interest in these subjects or simply need help in order to meet their goals in them.

My most recent teaching work has been in training as part of Activate learning at Reading college. These extensive online meetings have focused on equipping me with skills to deal with many different kinds of learners. Sessions on supportive learning, diversity, autism and other learning challenges have allowed me an excellent understanding of many learning styles. For in person teaching I have experienced first hand experts in theatre and drama as part of my East 15 course. I have been a professional performer for over 14 years with experience in all different types of acting. From voice to physical theatre! I've done it all!

When I was very young I starred in multiple theatre roles, developing various skills and delving into the works of many drama and theatre practitioners such as Stanislavski, Brecht, Artaud, Chekhov, Berkoff and many, many more!

After many years in theatre I decided to branch out into other forms of acting, I moved to voice acting in which I developed a personal method to help keep and maintain a healthy voice as well as using pre-established methods to create and enhance my repertoire of characterized voices

I started giving private lessons to a few friends and associates back in college, helping them get higher grades as well as preparing them for a future in the acting industry. One of my original students in particular, Stephen, was recently accepted into Manchester school of theatre, an esteemed drama school in one of the top universities in the country!
