I graduated from Cambridge University with a BA in English Literature, and then from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, graduating with a BA in acting, where I was the recipient of the Noel Coward Scholarship from 2008-2011. In July 2011 I won the Michael Bryant Award at the National Theatre, for verse speaking and Shakespeare.

When I'm not acting or tutoring I can be found in the plumbing, plastering, kitchen or grappling with a cryptic crossword.

Whilst at secondary school I taught reading skills to children who had low reading-ages.

I wrote a thesis on the connections between Maths and acting whilst at Guildhall.

Tutoring Approach:
My approach to tutoring is tailored to the individual's needs; firstly finding ways of fully explaining a concept, then cementing them with useful and memorable material to build students' confidence. My main objective would be to aid the student in understanding not only the specifics of the work but also the broader aspects of it, which I believe provides a truer grounding in - and enjoyment of - a subject. By making the work useful and enjoyable, and by finding alternative and effective approaches to study, I hope that my tuition will shed new light on subjects for students.

My passion is building confidence and fostering resilient approaches to problem solving.

I specialise in tutoring Maths and particularly enjoy helping those students whose confidence in the subject has become a barrier to their learning and enjoyment of the subject.

I trained as an actor at Arts Educational schools and have forty years experience working as an actor, director, writer and trainer. For ten years I worked as an audio director, directing many of the UK's leading actors in recordings of 150 audio books, poetry collections and drama. As a writer I have seen my plays produced in repertory theatre and by small touring companies and have also written for TV. I have been coaching people in presentation skills, acting and elocution since 2003. I teach young adults aged 18 and over and adults of any age.

Teaching Experience:
I began my career as an actor-teacher, working for small theatre companies touring schools, often leading drama workshops on educational themes. I was also Assistant Lecturer in Contemporary Theatre at the London branch of Boston University, teaching American young adults. I am confident with public speaking, since I have been performing in diverse venues for nearly 10 years. I have an MA in Acting and an MA in Theatre & Performance Studies. I believe that Tutoring is first about personal connection. Any learning can only be achieved given a certain level of trust, which must be established in order to create a solid platform from which further learning can then flourish. Younger students are most open to absorbing information and should have the chance to take academic information and guidance from a range of people. This enhances the educational experiences and broadens the horizons of a student.

Having myself struggled with poor teachers, or unwieldy subject matter, I know that, with the right teachers, such areas can come alive. More clinical approaches to tutoring further separate students from the learning process. Having experienced one-to-one tuition myself, I have seen the many positives and potential pitfalls the system can bring. These experiences galvanize me and help me in my own tutoring. I begin tutoring sessions with an informal meeting where we get to know each other. Tutees will complete a language assessment questionnaire which will help me determine what level they are at. By finding out tutee's strengths and weaknesses as well as what they want to achieve, I can create lesson plans beneficial to their learning.

One of my main aims when teaching English is to try and foster a love for reading in my students, so that they can approach language and writing with enthusiasm and confidence. I worked for 10 years as a professional actor with degree level qualifications in both Philosophy (Dundee University) and Acting (Queen Margaret University College).

Exam season is always a great time for a little confidence boost and skills brush-up. I have worked with adults in improving spoken and written English for UK degree entry level. I believe strongly in finding the best approach for each individual student. I don't believe in 'one size fits all' tuition and never have; we are all so gloriously unique and different! I do believe passionately in helping students to feel confident as quickly as possible and, as such, I tend to ensure that for each text, task or question, there is the opportunity for the student to quickly put into practice whatever has been taught. This might be quickly re-writing an introduction, re-ordering a thesis or perhaps simply writing a single line of analysis and quotation. I am a 36 year Deputy Head Teacher living in Glasgow. I relocated from Blackpool 12 years ago! I have a degree in drama followed by a post graduate degree in primary education from Lancaster; as well as various sports coaching qualifications.

I am able to teach a variety of subjects and I have also taught maths up to national qualification levels.

I am GTC registered as well as PVG cleared to work with children and vulnerable adults.

I am a primary school teacher but I also have experience of working with high school aged children, particularly in maths. Most of my experience comes in the 5-11 age bracket.

I have worked in both England and Scotland and I currently hold a post as a Principal Teacher within North Lanarkshire. I have a particularly good knowledge of phonics and helping children develop strategies to enhance their reading skills.

Trained in Moscow with a first class honours MA, I have directed Olivier Award Winners and when I work with actors/creatives I feel the hard work should be inspiring, fun and rigorous.

I love working with young people and helping them learn about the world of English and Drama. I brought Kafka to kids in the show 'Beetlemania: Kafka for Kids!' at the Edinburgh Festival; and Chekhov to younger audiences at Southwark Playhouse in new versions by award winning playwright Anya Reiss. These critically acclaimed productions had casts featuring Lily James, Holliday Grainger, John Hannah, and Paul McGann. English and Drama are passions.

I live in Edinburgh with my husband, two sons and our dog. I have had a varied career path, starting as an English Language teacher working in Italy, London and Edinburgh for ten years. In my early thirties I decided to start working as a theatre director and moved to combine EFL teaching with theatre work. Since 2005 I have also worked as a university teacher and have developed a strong skill-set in study skills teaching.
I enjoy reading, hill walking and gardening and home cooking.

Teaching Experience:
I am a highly experienced teacher and have worked in education for over twenty-five years. I have worked part-time as a university lecturer for fifteen years across undergraduate and post-graduate programmes and have particular skill in developing students' study skills and supporting reading and writing development. I can tutor students across a range of arts and humanities subjects to develop the skills they need to succeed at university.

I also have experience in teaching English as a Foreign Language to all levels from Begnner to Advanced levels including preparation for Cambridge exams and IELTS.

Personal Description:
I have just come out of fulltime education at East 15 acting school and am looking to get into teaching. Having recently done an online cause to become a member of learning support staff I have acquired a large variety of skills needed to go into education. My passion is acting and hope to continue with a full BA course in it at some point in the future. As well as acting I also have a love for English as a subject and have become an avid writer over the course of the last few months. While it has been difficult with the limitations of Covid 19 I hope to be able to support learners who have an interest in these subjects or simply need help in order to meet their goals in them.

Teaching Experience:
My most recent teaching work has been in training as part of Activate learning at Reading college. These extensive online meetings have focused on equipping me with skills to deal with many different kinds of learners. Sessions on supportive learning, diversity, autism and other learning challenges have allowed me an excellent understanding of many learning styles. As a result I am very flexible in my approach to supporting learners and happy to work around what best works for them. For in person teaching I have experienced first hand experts in theatre and drama as part of my East 15 course. Working with members of staff in researching Shakespeare as well as many other famous literary figures.

Tutoring Approach:
I intent to provide an appropriate level of support for any learners needs. I am passionate about discussion and debate in the learning environment to engage learners in their journey. As well as this, I intend to work closely with understanding how to use the learners strengths best in an exam format. I understand personally the frustration of having the knowledge with the inability to format it in a way that the examiners want so have a wide variety of exercises to help with this. Going on from things previously mentioned I am happy to work with all learners no matter their challenges or abilities in these subjects.

My expertise is in achieving band 9's, the highest awarded grade. However, I also pride myself in my ability to support and help students reach their own personal targets.

For dyslexic students I have created resources to support them in written exams, particularly in drama.

I have taught GCSE drama (edexcel exam board) for 6 years and GCSE sociology (aqa exam board for 2 years.

Many of my students have achieved band 9s in both of these subjects.

I trained as a drama teacher originally but extended my skills set to also be able to teach GCSE sociology.

I am also qualified to teach a level drama although I have not taught this in a few years.

As a current A-level student, I aim to offer targeted tutoring for students currently doing their GCSE's, using my recent experience and knowledge of the curriculum to my advantage. All the subjects I offer I've achieved grades 7 and above in, with 9s in both English language and literature, and 8s in history and religious education. My main priority as a tutor is to help students understand exactly what the examiners are looking for, whilst providing insights and strategies from a student's perspective in the following subjects:

Teaching Experience:
Whilst I haven't held an official teaching role, I've spent the last couple of years helping to mentor those around me when they needed it. I find it incredibly rewarding to break down harder concepts that people often find 'scary' into more manageable steps. For example, I previously tutored a friend in GCSE Maths who was consistently stuck on a grade 4-5. By focusing on consistently appearing topics that could also appear in larger mark questions, like SURDs and completing the square, I helped her build the confidence to tackle the higher-tier papers. I'm proud to say she went on to achieve a Grade 7 in her final exams. Additionally, I regularly help my younger sister with her primary school work, helping me to develop the patience and adaptability skills needed to explain the same concept in multiple different ways and examples until it clicks and sticks to the student being taught.

Tutoring Approach:
Growing up, I've always been a visual learner; I understand that textbooks aren't always enough. I've used this to my advantage to turn it into my greatest teaching strength: I use my iPad to make every session interactive.I do this by breaking down complex topics with live diagrams, graphs, and real-life examples to break down exactly how a concept works. I also use the 'I do, we do, you do' approach to help build a genuine understanding of the topic. First, I model exactly how to tackle a high-mark exam question. Next, we collaborate on a second question and work through the steps required together. Finally, I let the student take the lead on their own, allowing them to apply their new skills with their own knowledge.
