Tutoring Approach:
I believe one to one private tuition requires a tutor who can adapt to the needs of the pupil. Ideally (although not crucially-entirely online is also possible) I would wish to meet the pupil initially to establish how they may best be assisted and what the pupil's key areas of concern are. Each mind, young or old, needs different approaches and I believe my strongest ability is an adaptability to meet the varying needs and requirements of every student.

My approach, in most cases would be to follow a curriculum, finding out where their difficulties lie within this curriculum and how it would be best to resolve them.

I tend to use past papers when it comes to exam based tuition as this is ultimately what they will be faced with come exam time! However, when I have a pupil for longer there is more scope for more imaginative teaching or simply assistance with difficult homework.

With each of my previous pupils I have needed and been able to assist them in a way that is individually appealing to them and I have never had a pupil who has not achieved their desired results.

I hold a First Class Degree in English Literature and Drama from Manchester University.

I've been tutoring for nearly 15 years, working with students aged 6 years, up to 18, supporting them through KS1-4, GCSE and A'Level/IB curricula. I have also taught English as a foreign language. The content of my tutorials is entirely student- led; i.e I work towards the individual's goals and learning styles. I am experienced in the teaching of essay writing, exam preparation and textual analysis/understanding. I am very passionate about films, theatre, the media industry. I am currently in my second year of a BA Hons in Film Studies at Edge Hill University, living away from home during the week but always available on weekends. Certainly, this experience leads me to use a specific question type / specific formula answer approach. Tutees are encouraged to identify a particular question type, e.g. 'the context question', and then use the appropriate formula to gain maximum marks. Thereafter, the tutee is asked to practise this particular type of question whilst also undertaking whole close reading passages containing said question type.

In the critical examination of literature, particular attention is given to structure and developing a mature, yet fresh, personal response. I tend to adopt a modelling approach. Effectively, the tutee and I draft a first core essay on a given text, say, for example, 'Romeo and Juliet' Using this exemplar, the tutee is then assigned further essay questions, drawing upon this core essay as a guideline. Support is given throughout the writing process and constructive feedback is offered in the form of stage-appropriate targets to ensure progress.

For children 6-8 years LOVELAMDA offers lessons working towards introductory exams, which are a great foundation and prepare students with the essential skills required to partake in the higher-level grades.

At LOVELAMDA students get my un-divided attention. Each lesson is 45 minutes of 1-1 tutoring (this is all dependant on the grade level and may vary). This allows us to cover the syllabus, gain maximum feedback on their progress as well as allowing time for exercise outside of the LAMDA syllabus - focusing on character building, movement and stage presence, all key to building one's confidence and preparing them for the life beyond LAMDA and performance.

Our first session together (trial) will involve a short conversation with both parents and students, talking through your goals. From here we can explore and explain each syllabus (Acting, Public Speaking, Musical Theatre, and Verse and Prose) plus what's required for each to decipher what grade/syllabus we feel is best suited. All trial sessions are held online via Zoom.

LOVELAMDA suggests each student should have at least 20 guided learning hours for grades 1-5 and up to 90 learning hours for grades 6-8. Exams can be entered at any point in the year, seasonally at LAMDA's public centre in Blackpool. For example, students joining in September can expect to take exams around February, depending on ability.

I have been a professional performer for over 14 years with experience in all different types of acting. From voice to physical theatre! I've done it all!

When I was very young I starred in multiple theatre roles, developing various skills and delving into the works of many drama and theatre practitioners such as Stanislavski, Brecht, Artaud, Chekhov, Berkoff and many, many more!

After many years in theatre I decided to branch out into other forms of acting, I moved to voice acting in which I developed a personal method to help keep and maintain a healthy voice as well as using pre-established methods to create and enhance my repertoire of characterized voices

Teaching Experience:
I started giving private lessons to a few friends and associates back in college, helping them get higher grades as well as preparing them for a future in the acting industry. One of my original students in particular, Stephen, was recently accepted into Manchester school of theatre, an esteemed drama school in one of the top universities in the country!

Tutoring Approach:
My Courses are designed to help the student gain a better understanding of themselves as a young performer, gain the skills and the knowledge to further progress to where they want to be and involve themselves in a creative process that they designed for themselves. Through this, they will develop the toolset that essential for working in the performing industry

As an actor I have developed a teaching style which lets the student learn and develop with a sense of independence and confidence. I believe that confidence or lack of confidence can be the biggest restraint for people learning and developing something new. I will assert myself as someone who is friendly and approachable, assessing their confidence levels and making sure that I am as friendly as I can be

Once the student feels that they are ready I can begin to develop the lessons to their specific needs. Analysing the student's strengths and weaknesses and overall helping them overcome said weaknesses and reinforcing their strengths, giving them a firm base that will help them succeed in whatever is thrown at them in the future.

This method is completely adaptable from beginners to advanced learners. What I am looking for is personal development, and I reward it, there is no negative criticism at all. Negative criticism of any kind can crush a persons spirit and make the idea of learning less appealing. This being said, constructive, helpful criticism can be the most useful tool to develop the student not only as a learner but also as a person

Hello potential students!

My name is David. I was an actor for 20 years, both as a hobbyist and a professional until becoming a writer. I still am both of those things (as well as a voice-over artist), but now would like to pass on my knowledge to other people and see if it helps them.

Until very recently, I worked in customer service for a myriad of companies--all to allow me the space and time to enjoy a career that was never fully stable. I enjoyed them, but only for the opportunity to meet new people and learn from them. True, I may be a tutor, but I will never stop being a student.

I also class as neurodivergent. For decades I lived with undiagnosed ADHD. Learning this was a surprise to many others around me, but not to me directly. The signs were not as well known back then, and somehow I had adapted to learn. These days, we adapt the teaching; so know that whatever background you have, we will find a way to learn together!

Teaching Experience:
Over one year as a private Tutor. Most of my students have been GCSE level (all exam boards) and a few have been adult learners wanting to know more, or Primary School pupils working to better their grammar. I hold a Master's Degree in Creative Writing and a Bachelor's in Drama--both of which give me a unique but well rounded approach to English Literature and Language, as well as essay writing.

Tutoring Approach:
Easy; good conversation, plenty of debates and a whole heap of laughs! For most texts involved in the English Language and Literature courses, it's hard to really analyse what lies beneath the words on the page; especially in a school-style setting. I like to find out what how the student works, and what works for the student. Then, I tailor our sessions around them, their pace, and see if there's more excitement underneath those words!

I have taught secondary English in South Africa. I have taught key stage 2 and 3 in the United Kingdom. I have been a Montessori teacher in Spain, and learned alternative holistic teaching approaches. I have taught corporate executives in Ireland (one to one and groups), I have been a key stage 2 English examiner for SATS exams, and an English Junior Certificate examiner with the Dublin Education Board. Hello! I'm Alexis, your approachable, results-focused tutor for English and Drama. I'm friendly and easy to talk to, with a quick, light-hearted sense of humour that remains respectful. I'm goal-oriented and know what needs to be done to reach your targets. I'm happy to work with all ages. I have my own twin boys in S3 starting their National Fives so I understand the pressures for pupils and families. I want you to feel confident going into class and into exams. I teach one to one or small groups of up to four from my home in the west end of Glasgow or online. Groups are based on level and on texts. Please just reach out to discuss your needs.

I've been teaching English since 1999. I also ran a drama school. In 2017, I added drama to my General Teaching Council qualifications and began teaching drama in schools. I'm currently a visiting examiner for N5 and Advanced Higher drama, and I am also a marker for Advanced Higher assignments for the Scottish Qualifications Authority. Over the years, I've taught in many schools, starting in East Dunbartonshire and Glasgow councils during my early career. More recently, I spent nine years teaching English and drama at The High School of Glasgow. I left in the summer to take up an international teaching post, but I missed Scotland (and its weather too much!) and have returned to build up tutoring. I am experienced and have an excellent understanding of the exam standards.
