I've found in the past that the best approach to tutoring is to be very positive and flexible. I have never been a super forceful or strict tutor and think that trying to be too overbearing, particularly in sessions outside of or extra to school like tutoring, just makes people perform worse. I am also teaching online tuition and have done so in 2026-2027 and 2025 to present. I teach a mixture of GCSE and A Level Computer Science.

Tutoring Approach:
In my first lesson I will find the gaps in a student's knowledge. Often a student has a clear idea of what they need help on, but I also find that diagnostic assessment will help find other knowledge gaps the student is not aware of.

I will then address these knowledge gaps with specific tailor-made lessons. At the end of the lesson I use summative assessment to determine if they have improved. In future lessons I will re-test the student to see if they have retained this knowledge.

I use Google Meet and Google Documents which is shared with the student. I create individualised versions of my teaching documents for each student and they can retain access to the Documents after the lesson.
