I am a graduate in Physics with Astrophysics, which was a four year degree, which included me living and learning in Italy. My degree was challenging yet enjoyable, and contained a lot of Maths, which to me was great! As a born communicator writing and teaching have always appealed, and having spent the last decade tutoring and working for the Institute of Physics, I can definitely say I enjoy it as much now as I did when I started.. How I teach:

I introduce new material by building on what a student already knows, so each concept connects to something familiar rather than arriving out of nowhere. Chemistry becomes very difficult when it is learned as disconnected rules, and much more manageable when students see how the ideas fit together.

When a student is stuck on an exam question, I don't hand them the answer. I give a hint - enough to get their thinking moving, and no more - and let them arrive at it themselves. It takes a little longer, but it is the difference between a student who can answer that question and one who can answer the questions they haven't seen yet.

Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach is multi-sensory (visual, auditory and kinaesthetic). I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable, not a chore. In the first lesson, I assess individual needs, form a learning plan, give feedback to parents, then aim to fill in any learning gaps before moving on. Each session builds on previous learning. I always say that if a student does not understand how I have explained something, this is my responsibility to rectify, not the student. Repeating instructions is not the key - explaining in different ways is what works.
