I am an Open University graduate with a 2.1 Honours degree in Computing, Science, and Mathematics. I have taught Computer Aided Design and Engineering Mathematics at my local college. My own love for learning is evidenced by my hobbies which extend from sailing through to singing, piano, camping and walking and even the piano accordion. I usually tend to approach lessons by going through the background of the topic in focus and a few worked examples before giving students questions to answer themselves and going through worked solutions. Independent practice is a key part of becoming stronger in a subject, and the more a student practices, the better they will get, and this is a truly rewarding feeling. Throughout lessons, I work with a highly friendly, approachable and patient approach to tutoring, as it is vital to ensure that my students feel comfortable to ask questions on whatever topic they may have difficulties with.
Furthermore, I aim to be as concise in my explanations as possible and I like to break down problems into manageable chunks. For example, I encourage students to underline keywords in questions and, particularly in maths and science, to draw diagrams to help them visualise problems. When it comes to exam technique I teach students precisely how to answer certain styles of question to score full marks and show as much working wherever possible. I am an experienced tutor who has been tutoring for the last 25 years. I teach from KS3 to A levels, Maths, Chemistry and Physics.
I started my career as a Chemical Engineer and completed my PhD in that subject.
In Industry I have worked on Polymers, Pharmaceuticals and ceramics. I have designed towers using principles of Maths and Science and have been able to work out, how long it will take a ceramic to reach a temperature inside a furnace.
I have also worked on Pharmaceuticals and in particular enzymatic reactors and their Mathematical modelling. I also carried out calculation on diffusion through membranes.
