I also use multimedia aids to help students visualise biological/chemical processes where appropriate and I have created PowerPoint files covering all A-level and GCSE Biology and Chemistry topics, tailored to each syllabus/exam board. My academic research background has given me a very sound understanding of how to interpret and analyse scientific data, a major theme in A-level Biology exams and one that many students struggle with. I will happily assist students in building their confidence with respect to this trickier element of the course.

Since March 2020 , all of my tuition has been online (via Zoom) and I have adapted my lessons to work equally well, using interactive tools and easy sharing of resources. Graduated from Leeds University in Genetics and have a deep passion for science. In 2004 I decided to return to my original love of science and gained a PGCE teaching qualification to teach science.

The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I aim to guide the tutee to learn in a structured manner that so that the child does not waste their time jumping from topic to topic, randomly browsing a bit here and a bit there, as often happens. To do that, as tutor, I will facilitate their learning on a 1 to 1 basis so that they may gain a deeper and greater depth of knowledge of the subject. I will provide the subject knowledge expertise and transfer my knowledge to the tutee in a manner and at a level that is appropriate to the tutee but pushing them beyond their limits to the next stage. I will work to improve the child's self esteem, self belief and confidence in their ability to do well. As a trained hypnotherapist I am particularly qualified to boost a child's self-esteem. Once the tutee is confident in their subject knowledge, then we will work on exam techniques and exam practice in order to enable the tutee to ace the exams and significantly improve their grades.

I will work with each tutee on an individual basis and adjust the tuition lessons to their needs. There is no standard one size fits all model with me. Homework will be set to enable the subject matter to be reinforced with some self-learning at home. Honest school teachers will tell you that it is the noisy and disruptive pupils that get their attention, whereas the quite shy hardworking pupils tend to get neglected. Busy school teachers just do not have the time or energy to devote to helping their quieter or weaker pupils and it is these pupils that especially benefit from extra personal tuition. On the other hand a brighter pupil may be so far ahead of his or her peers that the teacher is just not able to give them the attention they need. A good tutor will help guide tutees who want to learn to get ahead and avoid becoming disinterested or bored. Why leave it to chance?

It is never too early to start boosting a child's education. For primary school children it is important that they get a good start to their education and do not lag behind. A tuition boost will enable them to get into a better school or a higher stream set so that they do not have to struggle or get left behind when the come to do their GCSE and A Levels.

I care deeply about teaching and learning in general and the teaching of mathematics is a particular passion for me. I am a secondary school mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I have completed a BSc in Accounting, an ACCA qualification and a PGCE course. I am currently studying for my MSc Education degree. I have 20+ years experience as a tutor and 10+ years as a teacher. I have also worked for an acounting firm for 5 years and worked as a company director for 7 years.

My first session is provided free of charge and I use this session to understand the needs of prospective pupils. At the end of the session, I have a frank and honest discussion with the pupil and/or their guardians. I use these conversations to listen to the concerns of the pupils and/or their guardians and present an outline of my assessment of the student's areas of strengths and weaknesses. I also suggest a course of action to help the pupil move forward.

I have been providing tuition in mathematics for over 20 years and have been a secondary school Mathematics Teacher for over 12 years. I have experience teaching to individual students, to small groups and to classes of up to 35 students. I have helped four year old pupils take their first steps in arithmetic and forty plus year old students finally understand how algebra works.

I have helped students gain confidence in their own mathematical ability when they have been convinced by the academic system that they are incapable of doing well in the subject. Tutoring Approach:
During the last two decades I have worked with many hundreds of students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly. I like finding out how the world around me works, and am keen to pass on my knowledge and enthusiasm to others. I also enjoy making or tinkering with things - I have customised a button accordion to play bass notes more flexibly, and have added extra buttons to video game controllers. In school I designed and constructed a solar-powered light of adjustable brightness. Patterns appeal to me. When I am not involved in science, I do Scottish Country Dancing, as well as many other genres of folk dancing with intricate symmetrical dance figures. My study of several languages, including Latin and German, allows me to identify parts of scientific terms that I can use to help my students understand them - for instance a recently discovered non-repeating tile is named Einstein not after the physicist but because only one ('ein') type of tile or stone ('stein') is needed to make the pattern. I find Richard Feynman inspiring. He himself got into science through tinkering and discussions with his father about how things worked. He spoke on beauty in nature, and that scientific understanding only enhances its appreciation - as well as seeing the beauty of a flower, a scientist can also wonder at its smaller structure, and how it developed to attract insects to pollinate it. What does this tell us about how bees see the world?

I have three years' experience conducting tutorials in Materials Science at Cambridge University, having myself studied Natural Sciences there, including Physics and Chemistry. In addition to the course material provided by the university and my own worked solutions to the problems, I used physical models in the teaching that I had made myself.

I'm a recent graduate of the university of Liverpool having studies chemistry BSc. I picked the course since i enjoyed chemistry at both GCSE and A level, creating a spark within me and led me to picking the challenging yet rewarding course. I'm currently employed as a Data Scientist working in London, and I've decided to pass on the passion in studying science to the younger generation by deciding to tutor. I am a versatile full-time tutor with experience in teaching comprehensive, independent, boarding, and overseas school students online, during a lesson we review exam papers and focus on the questions to highlight the necessary skills and knowledge needed to attain higher grades. Once we have identified gaps in subject knowledge we can then focus on specific skills and topics to build confidence and understanding.

Tutoring Approach:
Lessons are personally tailored according to student's needs, agreed goals and potential so that the best positive outcome is achieved. As part of the broader plan, we will go through range of papers and guidance is provided to understand the questions and how to structure answers and clearing out any misconceptions.

Personal Description:
I am a former teacher at a GCSE and Sixth Form college in west London. I currently work in the E-learning industry. I also have my own podcast about education, Education Bookcast. I cover a book a week about education research, for the benefit of teachers, parents, and anybody who takes an interest.

I am a Chemical Engineering graduate from Trinity College, Cambridge.

Teaching Experience:
I have worked as a tutor for 7 years in total. My students vary from 11+ to Key stage 3 to GCSE to A-level as well as university level students. I have taught over 70 students one-on-one so far, as well as many more in school and in private courses for examinations such as STEP, usually for several months at a time.

Tutoring Approach:
It is easy to overcomplicate things.

- Anyone can learn anything. It's a matter of method, support, application, and belief.
- Students learn new material at first by seeing a need to learn the new thing (e.g. because they don't know how to solve a new problem), and connecting new information to things they already know.
- They then need to strengthen this understanding by engaging in problems themselves and trying to remember what they have learned.
- Many students need to gain confidence. This partly comes from encouragement, but true confidence comes from progress and success, which comes from following the above.
- Students need guidance. It's challenging enough to try to focus on the material. Teachers need to make sure that all of students' focus is placed on thinking about the content, rather than on sideline issues like trying to figure out what comes next.
- Efficiency is important. Most people have specific targets (e.g. passing an exam). Things need to happen quickly.
- At the same time, early stages sometimes need to take longer in order to build a foundation for what follows. Taking a step back can be important in order to be clear on what's really going on, and avoiding rote memorisation or "going through the motions".

I have passion about biology and like to relate it with everyday life examples as it helps to learn. I am a motherly figure for my students. I am hard working, energetic, and love to see my students excel and achieve the grades they require.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to explain a topic, if a student requires. I sometimes ask student to explain a topic as this helps a lot to learn. I practice questions as students need to improve their writing skills. I take tests weekly. I enjoy teaching and want my students to enjoy it too.

Tutoring Approach:
Every student is different and my teaching style is adapted to their individual needs once we have identified their weaknesses.

I believe understanding is the best approach to learning and teaching. There's no point in just memorising things if you don't understand where they came from. I explain things in such a way that it is easy to understand, and I am very patient.

However, I cannot perform miracles. Students aiming for top grades would be expected to do some homework in between sessions.

I also offer a lot of flexibility. If the student has learnt something in school they didn't quite understand, I can go over the topic again with them during our lesson. If the student understood everything in school, I can teach them new topics to prepare them for when they learn that topic in school. Lastly, near exam times, I can offer intense exam revision and exam paper practice.
