Subsequently I will enrol you into an online classroom designed for uploading resources, submitting homework and receiving specific feedback on it. The next step is our first lesson, where you will have a very active role and get practice, tips and continuous feedback. Following I will set you targeted homework to cement your knowledge. During the last two decades I have worked with many hundreds of students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

I tend to start my tutoring with warm-up questions relating to the previous session as a mini tester for memory. To keep track of content during the session I tend to switch between teaching and worksheets, making sure the student doesn't feel like they're at boring old school again haha. Towards the end, I'll do a brief summary and tester questions on what we've learnt to do.

It also depends on where we are at during the school term where typically towards the end I will focus on past papers more and constantly redirect the students to more resources to help them.

Hi, I'm Lisa. I specialise in Scottish Chemistry tutoring, supporting pupils through National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Chemistry.

I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a First Class Honours degree in Chemistry, before completing my PGDE in secondary teaching.

I have also completed a Master's in Education as part of my ongoing professional development.

Teaching Experience:
I have 12 years of experience teaching Chemistry and 13 years of experience tutoring, both one-to-one and in small groups.

I tutor National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Chemistry, and have supported a wide range of pupils with different confidence levels, goals and learning needs.
