And then I teach them using the method appropriate to their style of learning. I also set plenty of work and get them to do past papers which I send to them in the first week. I then take these away and mark them in my own time and return with a deeper view of where they are going wrong after they have been taught. An experienced and highly successful teacher of Chemistry to A level and GCSE Science, In 2018 I retired from my job after 17 years as Deputy Headteacher of an outstanding-rated Oxfordshire comprehensive school. Although I enjoyed the challenge of a senior management position, it was always the actual teaching which I did that gave me most pleasure - and why I made sure that in the timetables I wrote I still retained a fair amount of teaching, after all that is why I went into working in schools in the first place, and you never tire of how great it is when you get students to realise they understand something new.

I have taught Science - mostly Chemistry - for almost 40 years in three highly successful secondary schools. This included 12 years as Head of Science. I was highly regarded at each school for the level of success my students achieved at GCSE and A level. I like to start lessons by revisiting and reinforcing my student's current knowledge. From this starting point, we can further delve into the topic and work through the concept (as per the exam specification). To consolidate our learning we will do practice questions at the end and I provide weekly homework to go over in the next lesson.

In my online lessons, I recreate the classroom experience. Using a digital whiteboard, I write and explain concepts just like in a school setting. I ensure my lessons are interactive to ensure an engaging learning environment.
