As a teenager I was lucky enough to receive tuition myself and it made a huge difference, so I really know how much of an advantage it gives.

Tutoring is my full-time job and has been for many years.

How I teach:

I introduce new material by building on what a student already knows, so each concept connects to something familiar rather than arriving out of nowhere. Chemistry becomes very difficult when it is learned as disconnected rules, and much more manageable when students see how the ideas fit together.

When a student is stuck on an exam question, I don't hand them the answer. I give a hint - enough to get their thinking moving, and no more - and let them arrive at it themselves. It takes a little longer, but it is the difference between a student who can answer that question and one who can answer the questions they haven't seen yet.

Hey I'm Abdul. I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Leeds. I passed my 11+ and attended Wilson's School and I absolutely loved my time there. When studying for my GCSE's, I struggled quite a lot with Chemistry and so I decided to get a tutor. After a few months of receiving tuition, there was a noticeable improvement in my grades and I achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry GCSE and later on studied it for A-level and achieved a grade A. I was very thankful to my tutors and teachers as I could not have done well in my studies without them.

During my time at sixth form, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students in my school. I later on taught some students outside of school for 1 year and it allowed me to build a long term relationship with my students and be able to actually see improvements in their grades and confidence in that subject. Although I have strategies and methods to many different question types in either maths or chemistry, everybody has a specific way they like learning so I aim to be adaptable and inquisivitive to see how I can tailor the lessons for whoever I'm helping so they can learn best.
