I am convinced that one-to-one tuition is by far the most efficient way in which a person can progress and gain confidence. Often someone can grasp a topic in 5 minutes of one-to-one that would have taken 2 hours to cover with a larger group. Once you are confident with a topic, we move on rapidly to the next one. A current A level tutee of mine told his father "I learnt more in that 2 hour session than I have all term at school" and his headteacher wrote to congratulate him on his improved grades. The following steps outline the process of each tuition session:

SE- Year 13 -SE lacked confidence when trying to write a UCAS personal statement. With my help, SE is now at a very good University.

Earlier Successes

2018-2019

KS 2 SATS - NJ had given up working in year 6. After my support he won a prize for writing and scored 113 and 117 in his English papers.

Scholarships - CA was a Grade 4 in History GCSE. He needed a grade 7 to obtain a scholarship. After my support CA gained his grade 7, got his scholarship and recently went on to gain a grade 9 in the actual GCSE securing his place at Rugby School.

GCSE- MS was at a good independent school and in top set. However, she was scoring at grade 2 in her English Language and English Literature mock exams. With my help MS went on to gain two level 7s for both her English GCSE exams.

Post Grads - S, A, I were all on a PGA at Warwick University. To get onto the MA course they needed to gain a distinction on their PGA assignments. With my support, all three transferred to the MA course.

ZN wanted to do as well as possible in his MA assignments but was struggling with Academic English. With my help he scored merits for his essays and dissertation.

H - a dyslexic adult who struggled with having to write personal emails/messages-she overcame this by just sending emojis. With my support H now composes emails using words and has the confidence to send emails / messages whenever she wants to.


2017-2018 successes :

N J-- NJ went from a Level 3 in school mock exams to achieving a Level 7 in the actual GCSE exams despite being dyslexic.

OL--OL went from a bottom grade D in school mock exams to achieving a high grade B in the actual A Level exams, taking up her place at Leeds Art School.

JA-- JA was home schooled and dyslexic. She felt that she was not able to study beyond GCSE. JA decided to continue with her education beyond GCSE as a result of the self- confidence she gained with my support.

I see myself closer to the role of a mentor rather than a tutor, with my goal being to help students maximise their potential and achieve their set goals. These can range from academic excellence to securing a full-time job in investment banking or joining a top university.

I have studied Economics at UCL, where I graduated at the top of my class with First Class, Russian Studies at OXFORD, and Management at the Judge Business School in CAMBRIDGE (Distinction). Moreover, I hold a PhD in Economics (UCL, 2016).

As you can see in my profile, I characterise myself as an Investor, Entrepreneur, and Academic. As a university lecturer, I primarily taught Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Econometrics, Finance, and Industrial Economics to undergraduate students and International Business and Finance to Postgraduate students. After purchasing my details, and so as to ensure the compatibility between the student and myself, I will organise a free 15-minute consultation, where we can discuss in more detail what are his/hers key objectives, the way I can support him/her in his/her studies, and devise a way to move forward. After the meeting, we can schedule our first session, and in case the student does not feel satisfied with it, I will provide a refund. Note that references are available on request and that I usually become fully booked by late February/early March. An enhanced DBS certificate is also available.

After qualifying as a teacher from Oxford University's specialised teacher training college I entered business and have held many senior positions as Commercial Director (e.g. Wembley Stadium) and Chief Executive of medium to large business mainly in the service sector. Complemented with 6 years experience as a global management consultant with Deloitte Consulting, one of the "Big Four" global firms.

I moved into Higher Education as a both a Senior manager (Director) at the University of the Arts London and subsequently as a Lecturer at the University of Kent (Visiting Fellow in Entrepreneurship).

I have 3 grown up children and I live in the UK.

Teaching Experience:
I qualified as a teacher of English and Drama from Oxford University's specialised teacher training college. My teaching experience started with developing executive training programmes in Finance and management assisting a group of local Chief Executives of small businesses. This developed my interest in teaching and I subsequently took a role as Visiting Fellow in Entrepreneurship at the University of Kent in Canterbury UK. At the same time becoming an adviser to the UK's national Body promoting Entrepreneurship (the NCEE).

In 2017 I took a teaching role in China as Business Teacher in the International Baccalaureate curriculum a the Canadian International School of Hefei also teaching business related programmes in the New Brunswick Canadian Curriculum to students aged 16 to 18. I believe every individual has their own way that they find easiest to learn and absorb most easily and part of being an effective tutor is to identify the learning style of students and this is achieved through careful listening, observation, discussion and modes of work (speaking, writing, drawing) etc).
