I am a 33 year old ICT teacher and I am in my 12th year of ICT/Computing and Business teaching. I have taught in both schools and college, and teach a range of qualifications including OCR Technicals, HNC, BTEC Nationals, GCSE's, OCR Nationals, OCR GCSE and OCR iMedia. I have also taught a higher level foundation degree programme. I am easy to get along with and put a lot of my success down to forging a positive relationship with each student. I am convinced that one-to-one tuition is by far the most efficient way in which a person can progress and gain confidence. Often someone can grasp a topic in 5 minutes of one-to-one that would have taken 2 hours to cover with a larger group. Once you are confident with a topic, we move on rapidly to the next one. A current A level tutee of mine told his father "I learnt more in that 2 hour session than I have all term at school" and his headteacher wrote to congratulate him on his improved grades. I have been the Head of Accounting since 2006, at a large Catholic Sixth Form College in Hulme, Manchester. I am 46 years old, living in Didsbury, South Manchester. I gained my degree in Economics and Finance in 1998 from Leicester University. I began teaching in 2002 so have many years of experience teaching Accounting.

I mainly offer tuition at my home, or a local library, either at the weekend, or weekday evenings. However, I am usually able to offer tuition during the school/college holidays.

Teaching Experience:
I completed my PGCE at Manchester University in 2002. I only teach Accounting AS and A2 Level, and this is therefore my main specialism. I can also help students in need of tutoring on the Finance elements of the Business Studies A Level, or on Accounting/Finance elements of Business/Accounting/Finance degree courses.

Many tutors are not willing to advertise the results they have achieved with students. I recommend you read the section below on the results i have achieved with my A Level Accounting students.

Tutoring Approach:
Every new batch of tuition starts with getting to know more about the students. It is at the same time important to give the students enough space to familiarise themselves with me. A discussion will then follow to scope down what will be covered in the syllabus. A work plan is also devised with the aim to complete the syllabus well before the examinations, so as to have adequate time for revision. The following steps outline the process of each tuition session:
1. Initiate the subject or topic based on discussion of a real life example / scenario
2. Introduce the theoretical part of the subject or topic
3. Explain how the theory links to the real life example / scenario
4. Work out and explain some examples
5. Immediate evaluation of student's understanding through questions and answers
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until satisfactory response of the student (steps 1, 2 and 3 may also be repeated if required)
7. Give homework and a brief discussion on what will be covered in the next tuition session

Note: Each tuition session starts with the correction of the previous session's homework and explanation of any problem areas, including a summing up of what was covered in the previous tuition session.

I hold a PhD Degree in Geology, MSc. in Applied Environmental Geology and BSc. Geology (First-Class Honours). I have studied both in in Kenya and in the UK and I have developed great skills as an academic writer and an independent consultant in my field.

I am currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Nairobi that is funded by FCDO, through the University of Oxford.
