The key is for them to understand the topic by linking to something which they previously now. This creates a connection in their brain to help them remember and understand the concept long-term. I would follow the syllabus provided and teach every topic in suitable order. Then I had work through past papers and leave them papers and homework on each topic to practise. During my final year of university, I have been involved with the Coronavirus Tutoring Initiative (CTI) which consists of volunteering to tutor biology to students that cannot afford private tutoring but were affected by the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In terms of my approach to teaching Biology, I am trying to focus on the students` needs and what they don`t understand or need help. The student and I will discuss the subjects of interest and I`ll try to let them figure out the answers themselves rather than me giving them a ready answer. This way they will be ready to answer all types of questions rather than trying to memorise an answer and be flustered in an exam setting if something they haven`t seen before comes up. In order to achieve this, I usually prepare my lessons in advance. I give exercises to the students to complete before our sessions so we can discuss them and identify challenging topics. Once these topics have been identified, I try to explain them through audiovisual measures (diagrams and videos), as well as examples from personal experience, which places the theory in a real-life context which is more memorable. I am passionate at applying innovative strategies to develop my teaching methods. I teach through various methods including Problem Based Learning, Design Thinking, Flipped Learning and Active Learning.
I am flexible, transparent and foster inclusivity in my teaching practices. I believe in developing strong, respectful relationships with students to create a sense of trust and safety. I promote the belief that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work.
I tend to use SMART goals for each session to enable students understand the learning outcome of the session. I tailor teaching methods to address the varied learning styles, interests, and abilities of students. I regularly reflect on what worked well and what didn't, and adjust my strategies accordingly. I integrate various technological tools to ensure student is understanding the concepts appropriately.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for 6 years in a highly diverse Secondary school in Ealing. I teach Triple and Combined Biology GCSE (exam board Edexcel, but can also teach AQA) and A level Biology (exam board Edexcel A), and Physics and Chemistry Combined Science GCSE. I have taught both Foundation and Higher level GCSE and have experience teaching SEN students.

Tutoring Approach:
I am an energetic person who loves to be creative while teaching. I would approach teaching in different ways so I can ascertain the best approach for the tutee. We will focus on content, exam questions using examiner reports and past papers, and revision techniques. I like to keep a positive vibe during sessions, so that the person feels good about themselves and what they are learning.

I'm Mel, a father of three children living in Manchester. I tutor for entrance exams and GCSE and KS3 Maths, English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. Additionally I tutor A level Biology and welcome adult learners.

Teaching Experience:
For the last ten years I have tutored hundreds of students in Maths, English, Biology, chemistry and Physics. I've also taught a number of students in the US, China, Russia, Canada and many countries in Europe. To date I have taught 20,000+ lessons.

Tutoring Approach:
I like to keep a flexible teaching style to work out what is best for each student.

Depending on what you need help with, we`ll work together in your first lesson to design a plan that will take you to where you need to be.

This might involve practising your maths skills, gaining confidence with concepts on the syllabus, or translating your knowledge more effectively into marks on your exam. Many students struggle with exam technique and it is definitely something a little tutoring can help with.

I have developed plenty of resources through my experience as a tutor to help students learn the key concepts on the biology syllabus for GCSE and A Level, and to get better at using this to tackle the harder exam questions. We`ll use a combination of slideshows, online whiteboard tasks, lots of discussion, and past paper practice to help you get the marks you need.
