I tend to use a variety of methods when teaching, depending on the child and their needs, focusing on their age and what their syllabus requires. I am capable to do quick summarised revision sessions, as well as long term lesson plans. Either way I ensure that the student is always given homework and stays revising. If appropriate I also do small mastery tests at the start of each lesson which consists of a five minute recap test, so the student is required to have revised the previous lesson well. Obviously if they struggle with the homework or mastery test, then the lesson plan's pace is adjusted to meet the child's level. This helps to ensure that the student masters each topic before moving on to the next.

On the medical school side, I have been involved at every stage of the process, from reviewing personal statements to coaching students through MMI and panel interviews.

Beyond one-to-one tutoring, I have worked in medical education at a wider scale. I was one of the founding Quizlet medical advisors at Imperial, creating flashcard resources that remain widely used by students today. I led the third-year lecture series for Imperial's MedEd Society, and co-authored part of the Pathology Guide, a textbook resource for fifth-year students.

Tutoring Approach:
I focus on understanding over memorisation and on building the transferable thinking that holds up under exam pressure.

My sessions follow a consistent structure. I teach through questions rather than lectures, because I want to find exactly where a student's thinking breaks down before trying to fix it. Patching the wrong gap is wasted effort.

The first half of each session is spent in conversation against the specification: probing current understanding, identifying misconceptions, and filling in foundations properly.

The second half applies that knowledge under exam conditions, working through past paper questions together on an interactive whiteboard, so students are not absorbing information passively but learning to apply it in the way that actually earns marks.

Mark schemes are part of this. A great deal of A-level science is lost not to weak understanding but to answers that do not say the thing the examiner is waiting for, and that is teachable.

The goal is for students to leave each session not just better informed, but thinking more clearly and independently. I want the improvements to outlast the tutoring.

Personal Description:
My name is Michael, a penultimate year medical student. I hold a BSc Biochemistry degree with First Class Honours from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, a leading university in Hong Kong. I have a strong background in Sciences and Medicine. My passion in these subjects encouraged me to become a tutor, where I can guide and motivate students in their studies. My medical training also equipped me with patience, as well as strong communication skills and teaching skills. All these experiences shaped me to become an ideal tutor for students who want to achieve the best that they can do.

Besides academic, I am a black belt holder in Taekwondo, a Korean martial art. I started learning Taekwondo since I was six. I have taught students ranging from primary students to adults, in their pursuit of an active lifestyle and skills to defend themselves if needed.

Teaching Experience:
I have 6 years of tutoring experience in multiple formats. I have taught primary students in groups to guide them finishing their exercises and homework. I have also been tutoring 1-to-1 to a student in Hong Kong since she was in primary school. Her academic growth helped her getting into one of the most prestigious secondary schools. I have also been teaching my fellow medical students as part of my medical training, with positive feedback.

My approach is to tailor the needs of the students. To provide personalised guidance, I always check how much the students know first, followed by setting goals for each lessons. I would focus on explaining the concepts rather than simply reciting facts.
