I'm Pauline, and I specialise in French and biology. It sounds an odd combination, but read on and I'll tell you more.

For French: I'm half French, complete with both British and French passports. I am fluent in the language, having started with "survival French" at the age of five to yell at my cousins, and then studying it at both GCSE (A* grade) and A-level (A grade). I go to France regularly and enjoy reading news articles in French. For lessons, I usually mix in reading, speaking, listening and grammar, as well as some history, geography and French current affairs to bring it to life. I am also available to practice speaking French, to improve your accent. I can teach both students for exam prep and adults if you're going to France and need some help with asking for directions and a coffee/glass of wine!

For biology: I again studied at GCSE and A-level and then did three degrees in the general field of biology! My PhD was in biomechanics so I specialise in anatomy and physiology, exercise science and cardiovascular; but feel free to contact me and we can discuss what you need. I can even teach plant science! A common request is to go through past papers: often, students have a good knowledge of the subject but find it hard to answer exam questions, especially AQA. My specialty is in exam technique, helping you to understand the questions and what they're really asking for. I have a large bank of past papers and questions of all shapes and sizes that we can go through.

I'm patient and friendly and use a flexible approach so you learn at your speed. Having obtained my PhD, I can relate to students and the specific pressures they face. I am DBS checked and can supply references on request.

Lessons are £30 per hour per person and £50 for two hours, including travel in and around Newcastle. There will be a small charge to cover my fuel for a longer drive, but I'm happy to discuss.

If appropriate I also do small mastery tests at the start of each lesson which consists of a five minute recap test, so the student is required to have revised the previous lesson well. Obviously if they struggle with the homework or mastery test, then the lesson plan's pace is adjusted to meet the child's level. Hey I'm Abdul. I'm currently studying Computer Science at the University of Leeds. I passed my 11+ and attended Wilson's School and I absolutely loved my time there. When studying for my GCSE's, I struggled quite a lot with Chemistry and so I decided to get a tutor. After a few months of receiving tuition, there was a noticeable improvement in my grades and I achieved a grade 9 in Chemistry GCSE and later on studied it for A-level and achieved a grade A. I was very thankful to my tutors and teachers as I could not have done well in my studies without them.

During my time at sixth form, I volunteered to tutor GCSE students in my school. I later on taught some students outside of school for 1 year and it allowed me to build a long term relationship with my students and be able to actually see improvements in their grades and confidence in that subject. Hi, my name is Maahi, and I am currently a student at St Dominic's 6th form, studying Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at a level. I received an outstanding set of GCSE grades and my set of results was even published in the school newspaper. I like helping younger students in any way possible, in year 10, I helped those who have come from foreign countries or have a lower reading level and have difficulty reading to become fluent readers through a 'reading buddies' programme. That was when I realised that I am good at teaching and helping students. Hi, my name is Josh. I am a fully qualified NHS doctor and Imperial College London graduate, tutoring GCSE and A-level Biology and Chemistry alongside medical school applications. Since 2020 I have taught 43 students across more than 1,500 hours, and I am also a published researcher in cardiovascular medicine, with an interest in cardiovascular prevention.

I began tutoring while studying at Imperial and have taught continuously since. When I initially applied, through trial and error, I developed study systems for improving my understanding, helping me to achieve A*A*A*A* in my A levels and 96% in AQA Chemistry. I graduated MBBS in 2025, was awarded the President's Scholarship for outstanding scholarly activity, and achieved a total of 10 distinctions across medical school exam and a First Class intercalated degree in Endocrinology. I have just completed my first year working as a doctor in the NHS.

I was one of the founding Quizlet medical advisors at Imperial, creating flashcard resources that remain widely used by students today. I led the third-year lecture series for Imperial's MedEd Society, and co-authored part of the Pathology Guide, a textbook resource for fifth-year students.

Tutoring Approach:
I focus on understanding over memorisation and on building the transferable thinking that holds up under exam pressure.

My sessions follow a consistent structure. I teach through questions rather than lectures, because I want to find exactly where a student's thinking breaks down before trying to fix it. Patching the wrong gap is wasted effort.

The first half of each session is spent in conversation against the specification: probing current understanding, identifying misconceptions, and filling in foundations properly.

The second half applies that knowledge under exam conditions, working through past paper questions together on an interactive whiteboard, so students are not absorbing information passively but learning to apply it in the way that actually earns marks.

Mark schemes are part of this. A great deal of A-level science is lost not to weak understanding but to answers that do not say the thing the examiner is waiting for, and that is teachable.

The goal is for students to leave each session not just better informed, but thinking more clearly and independently. I want the improvements to outlast the tutoring.
