The tutor is the expert in subject knowledge and learning but it is the tutee who has the paramount role in their own education and excelling in their subjects. I firmly believe that the role of a tutor is that of a catalyst and the child's role in their own learning is of greater importance. I aim to guide the tutee to learn in a structured manner that so that the child does not waste their time jumping from topic to topic, randomly browsing a bit here and a bit there, as often happens. Honest school teachers will tell you that it is the noisy and disruptive pupils that get their attention, whereas the quite shy hardworking pupils tend to get neglected. On the other hand a brighter pupil may be so far ahead of his or her peers that the teacher is just not able to give them the attention they need. It is never too early to start boosting a child's education. For primary school children it is important that they get a good start to their education and do not lag behind. I was a student researcher in Church laboratory at Harvard Medical School. My research interest lies in synthetic biology and molecular biology. Currently, I am an undergraduate Biochemistry student at the University of Surrey.

When attending Sixth Form College of Farnborough, I tutored AS Chemistry students from 2013 to 2014. With biology and chemistry, I believe it is vital to understand basic concepts before learning anything in a higher level of detail. Due to this, I believe it is important for tutees to be taught the basics of a topic before learning detail.
If the tutee seems comfortable with a topic and would just like to consolidate, I would test them with some questions from either past papers or textbooks. This will ensure that, they are able to apply their knowledge.

Also, I believe memorizing key terms and definitions is very useful in exams so I use flashcards or small tests during the beginning or end of the tuition session to test their understanding and make sure that they learn these key words and definitions.

Tutoring Approach:
During the last three decades I have worked with numerous students and have read research studies from academics around the world on the subject of attainment in mathematics. My own experience is in keeping with all the studies I have read about this topic. The overwhelming majority of students can do well in mathematics provided they have the confidence, the techniques and willingness to work hard. Even after only six to eight weeks of tuition, all the students I have tutored have improved by at least one grade or one level.

I tell all prospective pupils there is no magic bullet or shortcut. To achieve success in mathematics a few things are key: understanding the concept well; understanding when and how to apply it in different situations; lots of practice in applying it in different scenarios and short, regular revision sessions. So my only pre-conditions before I agree to work with any student are: a positive attitude; a commitment to put in the time and effort required to bring about the improvement in their grades; and at least one ninety minute session every week.

It is important to me that students should enjoy mathematics and look forward to their sessions with me. To ensure this I use a variety of different resources to explain concepts to students and am a firm believer in using physical and computer based study tools and aides to complement the standard oral and written tools used to teach mathematics. I also believe in linking the mathematics that we study to the real world to increase students' engagement with the topic and their understanding of its relevance. I am very patient and empathetic to my student's needs and once they develop in confidence I encourage all my students to challenge themselves regularly. Each student will have their own learning methods, some may learn by understanding the whole concept then going into the exam questions, some want to go through exam questions while they are learning the concept to see how the theory can be applied to the problems. Some may learn visually with experiments or examples whereas others will learn through trial and improvement of their own. I will spend the first session finding out how they like to learn and design a program just right for that individual student.
Hopefully once we start tutoring, the students will feel much more confident with the subject and the key to success for any exam is self confidence. I will always be there as a guide, a mentor, a friend to help them through what they find difficult.

Personal Description:
I hold a MSc in Molecular Life Sciences from Université de Lausanne Switzerland and a BSc in Biology from Imperial College, specializing in Molecular Biology, Genetics and Neuroscience. Before this, I completed my A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Math (3A*) and Physics (A), successfully bridging knowledge gaps betweeen them and their counterparts within the Ontario Secondary School Curriculum.

I believe that science can be both fun to learn and personally beneficial to anybody. As such, I will offer tutoring in the four STEM subjects I have experience in. I will also tutor English, as a good command of the language can be as critical to understanding the sciences as the arts.

Teaching Experience:
From 2013 to 2015, I tutored 13-16 year olds in Ontario Secondary School English, Math, and Basic French, oftentimes also taking the subjects that I tutored. I also tutored an 11-year-old student Primary School English and Math from 2016 - 2017.

During my second year at Imperial College, I was a Peer-Assisted Learning program mentor, where I advised ~15 first year students how to do well in Biology coursework and exams, created activities to hone scientific communication skills, and provided constructive feedback on their coursework performance if requested.

Additionally, throughout both my degree programs, I regularly presented talks on cutting-edge Biology research to fellow students and non-experts. As such, I have experience in simplifying difficult concepts to lay audiences.

Tutoring Approach:
I am a patient individual who will tailor tutoring sessions to address the goals, needs and learning preferences of my tutees. This is so that tutees feel comfortable yet personally engaged in their learning.

Regardless of the strategy we adopt, I am one to emphasize grasping fundamental concepts, asking questions, and making connections between what is being learnt and what tutees already know or might find personally interesting.

I'm a fully qualified science teacher and the current Head of Biology at a large secondary school. With over 20 years of experience in education, I specialise in helping GCSE students succeed in Biology by building both subject knowledge and exam confidence. I also work as an examiner for AQA GCSE Biology, so I know exactly what examiners are looking for and how to help students maximise their marks.

Teaching Experience:
I've taught Biology across Key Stage 3 and 4, with a particular focus on the AQA GCSE specification. As Head of Biology, I lead curriculum planning, exam preparation, and targeted intervention strategies to support student progress. I also mentor early career teachers and trainee teachers, supporting them to deliver effective and engaging lessons. My work as an AQA examiner gives me valuable insight into how exam questions are marked and how students can approach them with confidence.

My tutoring sessions are calm, focused, and tailored to each student's needs. I focus on building a secure understanding of key topics, strengthening exam technique, and improving confidence. I use a combination of clear explanations, structured practice, and real exam-style questions.
