I currently Subject Lead in Art and Design in a secondary school in Bishops Stortford and have a first class honours degree in Illustration and extensive skills in digital media including web design, image manipulation and design for print. Particular strengths of mine are life drawing and painting. I also have skills in textiles, quilt making, sewing and other crafts. I have taught in the UK for over 10 years and have extensive experience in teaching Art at A-level and at GCSE. I see myself as a 2D specialist as I can do a number of different techniques and have an experimental approach to teaching Art. Every project is unique and I am constantly learning. I will be able to do printmaking with students, painting, textiles, some Adobe photoshop work and basic construction work. But most importantly I do understand the exam boards at GCSE and at A-level and enjoy developing a project with the student to meet the assessment objectives of the exam board and in so doing taking the students through a journey of discovery where they can become empowered and passionate about their work. Having worked for over 20 years as an Art teacher leading students in the A-level and GCSE course I have the ability to help a student to develop their skills when taking Art and Design as an examination subject. I have worked with a number of exam boards and even consulted with OFQUAL where I helped look at the standards in the exam board across the Country. I am a professional in my field and will be able to support students in developing their Art and Design skills and will aim to make it a personal journey where students choose their own technique and learn to develop this in line with the requirements of the Examination Board.

I would work with the student to find out exactly what their special skill is in Art. Students will need to find a topic that inspires them and do some visual research on this and I would then help the students by teaching them a range of different techniques, learning how to draw in a number of media from pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen and ink, biro and graphite and then teach them how to paint in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and use a mixed media approach. Textiles is also a medium I would offer students and basic construction techniques. Adobe photoshop skills is also important in developing photographic images as part of the development. Developing different skills until the student finds out what they particularly enjoy working with and helping the student to explore different media to extend their ideas and lead the students up to developing a final piece. The students would then have a whole project from beginning to end which will help with portfolio development.

Each task is checked for quality and completion before we move on to the next task. I provide direction in terms of research and references to inspire the student, based on their chosen themes, as well as examples and tutorials on using a range of materials and techniques. At the end of each session I communicate with the parent/carer and give them a clear report on what progress has been made and what tasks I have set to be completed for our next session.

It is important to understand that my role can only be to guide and demonstrate and not complete the work for the student, as this work would not be allowed in the student's GCSE/A-Level portfolio.

I am a professional fine artist with many years experience of teaching in Colleges and Universities both in the UK and the USA. I am committed to teaching and this to some extent informs my work I have continued my practice as a fine artist throughout my teaching career and I have continued to exhibit both in Europe the USA and Dubai. I have a studio in Crete Greece from where I regularly travel to various European Capitals to visit important museums and galleries and these experiences are fed back into my teaching.

I have a Master's in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art in London and I am a professional fine artist with 30 years' experience of teaching in the field of Art and Design. In 2014 I was an early adopter of teaching the visual arts remotely to a range of students from different countries and backgrounds. Over that period I taught over 1000 students and as Head of Foundation Studies, I supervised the instruction of many thousands more. I have been responsible for strategies, content, and delivery of that covered media from fine art drawing and painting, photography, concept design, animation, theatre design, graphic design, and illustration. My approach across these disparate and rich media is to enable students to understand the connections between theory and practice and of how to develop a creative process which is research and concept-led. Design-
Textiles, fashion design, illustration, visual communications, printmaking, art therapy with the use of colours, Moodboard Creation. Basic Sewing Skills.

Crafts
Mixed media, Mark Making, Sewing (how to make a small bag). Sublimation DTF Printing, T-shirt designs.

Tutoring Approach:
All lessons will involve practical sessions, to include drawing techniques, perspective and visual skills, along with demonstrations handouts (Recording visual drawings, research and ideas in a sketchbook, Annotations will also be encouraged in sketchbook work.

Depending on age groups, I will focus on how to achieve best results to prepare for exams, as well as for portfolio preparations.

Some materials will be provided by myself and by the learner, however, I will be able to suggest where and what materials to purchase.

Lessons will be tailored to the learners personal needs.

Subjects
