I am a retired graphic designer/partner in design consultancies and magazine art director, now a painter and photographer.

ART: I like to find out as much as I can about my students before beginning to teach them. I like to meet them and see their portfolios. My first duty is to make sure that drawing is taught to an academic standard before more creative work is undertaken. Mostly I teach representative art but am happy to encourage abstract and conceptual work.

PHOTOGRAPHY: I have a wide experience of taking and manipulating digital imagery. I have an understanding of chemical photography techniques that are transferred to Photoshop and RAW imaging.

I currently Subject Lead in Art and Design in a secondary school in Bishops Stortford and have a first class honours degree in Illustration and extensive skills in digital media including web design, image manipulation and design for print. Particular strengths of mine are life drawing and painting. I also have skills in textiles, quilt making, sewing and other crafts. I often like to introduce my students to new ways of working by combining media in creative ways. I have a PGCE in Secondary Art and Design as well as an MA in Art and Design in Education. I have taught in the UK for over 10 years and have extensive experience in teaching Art at A-level and at GCSE. I see myself as a 2D specialist as I can do a number of different techniques and have an experimental approach to teaching Art. Every project is unique and I am constantly learning. I will be able to do printmaking with students, painting, textiles, some Adobe photoshop work and basic construction work. I am a professional in my field and will be able to support students in developing their Art and Design skills and will aim to make it a personal journey where students choose their own technique and learn to develop this in line with the requirements of the Examination Board.

Tutoring Approach:
I would work with the student to find out exactly what their special skill is in Art. Students will need to find a topic that inspires them and do some visual research on this and I would then help the students by teaching them a range of different techniques, learning how to draw in a number of media from pencil, chalk, oil pastel, pen and ink, biro and graphite and then teach them how to paint in gouache, acrylic, watercolour and use a mixed media approach. Textiles is also a medium I would offer students and basic construction techniques. Adobe photoshop skills is also important in developing photographic images as part of the development. Developing different skills until the student finds out what they particularly enjoy working with and helping the student to explore different media to extend their ideas and lead the students up to developing a final piece. The students would then have a whole project from beginning to end which will help with portfolio development.

Welcome, artist friend! I am Calina and I have been studying art since 1986. I have created the way in this field for more than 35 years. Currently I live and create at my studio in Lower Earley (Reading). I love and I am pleased to expanding the field of Abstract Expressionism. I use simplified shapes with small details in the descriptive scenes.
A big part of my inspiration comes from the natural surroundings and through my travels. The main topic that I approach it is landscape, in all moods and mysteries. Through my art I would like to share with you different states of nature.The composition is balanced by the characters you always find in nature: different species of trees, wild animals and their world. The diversity of materials that I use helps me to create in the smallest details, impressions created about the natural world and our experiences with it.
My works can be found in numerous private and corporate collections throughout the United Kingdom and internationally. I can't imagine a single day without the colours, brushes and canvases.

It is important to understand that my role can only be to guide and demonstrate and not complete the work for the student, as this work would not be allowed in the student's GCSE/A-Level portfolio.

I am an active artist with decades of experience and a studio in the Southeast London area.
Classically educated to Masters level and able to utilise different mediums and techniques to produce paintings, sculptures or models.
