I have completed my PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at UEA. I also have an MA (Distinction) in Creative Writing from Royal Holloway, and a First Class Honours Degree in English Literature. I enjoy tutoring because the process between student and tutor is wonderful. I have a MA in Production Design for Film and Television from Kingston University and a BA Hons in Furniture Design and Applied Arts from Edinburgh College of Art. I have worked in the film and television industry since 2004. I lead large teams of specialist designers, art directors, junior assistants, crafts people and construction teams. And I collaborate closely with other experts within the industry including cinematographers, directors and screenwriters.

A production designer designs the worlds in which the TV Drama or film is set. That includes working with location people to choose locations in which to film - and building sets in studios. It can also involve working closely with SFX teams. The role juggles creative vision with practical project management. It's a collaborative media/ industry and relies heavily on communication skills- visual and verbal.

I've tutored students looking to win a place in art schools/universities and specialist creative high schools. Students looking to better their results at A level, and I've taught larger classes of young adults in university and workshops. I help my four year old with his art and design too : )

Tutoring Approach:
My approach depends on the students needs and I am very flexible. I can work in a very focused way with the students brief on course curriculum. Or more loosely- developing verbal and practical skills for a portfolio for art school/media design or communication courses. I'm down to earth and structured in my approach.

Personal Description:
I am an active artist with decades of experience and a studio in the Southeast London area.
Classically educated to Masters level and able to utilise different mediums and techniques to produce paintings, sculptures or models.
I specialise in oil on canvas and have a style described as a mixture of Monet and Constable.
I also possess my own DIY handmade roto casting machine for producing plaster and resin models.

Painting has always been my favourite medium. Still-life, landscapes, portraits, anything. However, I have an affinity towards boats, animals, wildlife, and nature in general.

Teaching Experience:
Following experience as a substitute teacher, I have gone on to provide in person tuition to children and adults for the past few years.

Tutoring Approach:
Classically trained, I work with the student to build the foundations needed to be a great artist. This includes a hands-on approach to strengthen weaknesses and guide the student towards their end goal.
The skills I can show you are:
• Drawing fundamentals such as colour, mixing techniques, layering methods.
• Using basic shapes to break down complex subjects into simple geometric forms.
• Emphasize proportions by using guidelines and measuring techniques to help maintain accuracy.
• Train observational skills by drawing from life to develop keen visual perception and develop control over form and texture.
• Practice contour drawing to focus on capturing the outlines to build hand-eye coordination.
• Introduce light and shadow to create depth and volume.
• Understand and use perspective to add atmosphere and feeling.
