I am a professional artist and Art Tutor/Coach/Mentor. A graduate of The Royal College of Art in 1999 with an MA in Painting, with solo and group exhibitions including The National Portrait Gallery and The Royal Academy of Arts, London. I teach, tutor, and mentor young people and adults, and I organize and deliver tailor-made art programmes supporting communication and wellbeing for individual's and group's development.

Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching and mentoring young people and adults, all levels up to Master degree since 1994. My deep knowledge of the arts and extensive experience, has produced a simple and comprehensive system, which inspires a student to follow and achieve their highest potential fast. I am a recently retired teacher with over 30 years combined experience in further education, independent and maintained secondary schools. I am now based in a beautiful part of Norfolk, where I paint, give private tuition and run an art club.
My own work is based on observations of mans' intervention in the landscape. I work in oils, water colour, digital photography and print.

My first foray into teaching was in further education as a visiting lecturer in graphic design and illustration. From there I moved into the independent sector, continuing to work successfully as head of department and head of faculty.
I have extensive experience as a senior regional moderator for GCSE examinations in art and design with a leading examinations board, being responsible for supervising the work of a team of visiting moderators in the south east of England, and for resolving disputes with schools. I do voluntary work for the National Trust, giving occasional talks to schools on symbolism in Tudor portraits.

Having started my career as a graphic designer I had, by necessity, to broaden my experience and skills into other two and three-dimensional media in order to become a successful teacher. My departments had outstanding results at GCSE and A-level, and many of my students went on to study at many of the principal art institutions, including Central St Martins, Chelsea, Glasgow, Edinburgh.
Teaching is about finding the unique personality of the individual and finding ways to encourage its expression. I have been a loyal student to BCU, where I obtained, both my Fine Art degree and my MA in Art and Education Practice. Planning for my PhD research study too. This post will help me through my research and will give me a good access to both teaching and research. I have been looking for this opportunity to teach alongside my PhD study.

I am interested in culture diversity and community. I am quite focused on research and combining my work with strong evidence. I have an open and adaptive approach, in that each student is unique and has something individual to express. Everyone has different desires for their arts discovery.

I take into account experience knowledge and ambitions and devise a structural plan for progression. I draw up a list of artists for the student to study, both contemporary and classic. I reference writers artists of all sorts in specificity for the student that is ongoing throughout the teaching sessions. I hope my students also to make their own research, and to bring to light their own sources of inspiration and reference. I encourage documentation both of resource and personal note making.
